safe to switch back to conventional oil from synthetic??
i am currently runing mobil 1 5w30 and im burning oil. i wanted to know if i can switch back to conventional oil to see if it stops. is there any problems if i switch back. i heard its bad for the motor, and once u go synthetic u should not go back
def. not!
using full synthetic and then switching back to a non-synthetic can fug up a lot of your seals and **** really bad
90% of the time when people complain about synthetic oil being bad, it's because they switched from it to a non-synthetic and screwed up their seals

Wrong.
I go a full 2,500 miles betwween changes without burning a drop. I may add a cap
full ocassionally if the level is a nail under the second dot, but, the next time I
check it's a nail above.

Wrong info and common myth, synthetic and dino are totally compatible.

Switching from synthetic to conventional oil is plenty safe in a modern engine. More than enough R owners have used M1 5w30, switched to a conventional oil or tried a higher weight (10w30, 10w40) and have reduced oil consumption by doing so.

Generally synthetic oil burns faster from my experiences. I just castrol GTX 5w30 and it seems to burn about a quart, maybe a little less, b/t oil changes.
