Default d15b block, d16z head?

i have recently purchased a 94 civic hb with a d15b1. i was just wondering if any one knew right off hand if the blocks were the same and a d16z6 vtec head would directly bolt up, or would there be some fabrication involved?

You mean D15B7. What you're looking to do is called a "mini me" swap. That means you take the head off a D16Z6 or Y8 and mate it to your D15B7 block. The benefit is Vtec.

Here is the ultimate site on the mini me swap. BauleyCivic (our moderator) is the guru.

Seach under "mini me" and you'll find a ton of good info as well.
