Default DIY Testpipe. 56K noway, huge pics.

Disclamer: This is for OFF ROAD USE only. I Take no responcibility if you choose to build and/or use a testpipe on your veichle and drive on public roads.

The old one, I made that too. Had to have the flange for my huge collector.

New testpipe. Keep in mind i just cut the ends off the old one with my bandsaw, added in a pipe. The welds were dont WITHOUT GAS. So i dont want these jerk *** comments like "the welds arent good".

For all you tree huggers. This is only going to be used for about a week. It was a sunday when it broke, it was VERY loud. Sounded like a open DP. And no where was open. For some reason my exhaust shop dosent stock 2.25" cats.... So next weekend t he pipe will see the bandsaw and will get choped (the front anyways) and a new cat will be put in.

For the record. I feel loss of torque, my car stinks, the exhaust is very buzzy on let-off and Its louder. I have no resinator. 2.25" to magnaflow muffler.

To testpipes.

thats gonna be the same setup i will have. i just hollowed my cat, i cut it open like a can of sardines, cleared the insides, then welded it back up. it stinks a little know, and it is a little buzzy (more from my headers) but i just bought a magnaflow and will be getting all new 2'25 inch exhaust. so i guess there is no avoiding the ricey sound, but oh well, as long as it makes power.

HA HA HA... to THAT test pipe.

I have a 2.65" test pipe (same diameter as my greddy exhaust) that is resonated... That's right.. I have a resonated test pipe.. Not to mention an expensive greddy exaust and between the 2 I couldn't be happier.. my exhaust note isn't too loud at all, infact it's pretty damn quiet. People only hear me coming if I'm in vtec. I have had COUNTLESS compliments on the sound of my car at the race track and on the street.

to good testpipes.

When I had my testpipe on it sounded awesome but was way too loud. It was a lot more raspy and the engine revved effortlessly. With my Carsound Magnaflow cat, it got quieter and acceleration got slightly slower but torque did pick up a bit. I found myself hitting VTEC more frequently with the cat than without.

U dont want the raspy sound? Get a resonator!! Like rice_classic, i too have a greddy (sp) cat back exhaust which includes a niice resonator and i have ran a hollowed cat from time to time. Absolutely NO ricey sound.

stick a long screwdriver in a cat, hammer out the fiberglass honey combs inside, (dont breathe it in) = instant test pipe.

I believe that's actually ceramic, and not fiberglass. I could be wrong, though.

to testpipes.

The import community is so hypocritical.

We yell at 'gas guzzling' domestic guys and gripe about the environment but we don't even hold up our end of the bargain?

Sorry contestant but your answer is WRONG. Even with our "test" pipes our cars still pollute less then those SUV's because the SUV's are classified as light trucks therefore they don't have to meet the same emissions standards as passanger cars!!

The complaint about SUV's isn't about emissions as much as it is about GAS GUZZLING. These monster vehicles that take 3 times the materials to built and consume 3-5 times as much gasoline.

But that will cause a uneven swirling turbulence. But a nice straight pipe will keep the flow going.

That is completely aside from my point.

So you're stipulating that just because you're polluting less it gives you the right to pollute more?

For the record.... a 2004 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8 has a Greenhouse Gas Emissions rating of 10.4 tons per year.

For comparative purposes, a '91 Honda Civic with a 1.6 and an automatic produces 7.3 tons per year.

Hardly the significant difference you're playing it off to be.

im pro at mig and arc. I wanted to practice tig, i started tig welding it, it was so slow that i just decided to mig it becaue its quicker.

Remember thouse welds were done without gas (not flux core eaither) Just mig that ran out of gas.

The header has a 2.5" collector. I had to find that flange at a muffler shop and the output on the flange was 3".

Just made it work.

VW Fox 87-93 has a pipe behind the cat w/ a 3 bolt flange on it
the pipe is about 14-16" long all you have to do is cut the length you need and weld on a flange for your collector and your set

im not sure what size the pipe is but the 3 bolt flange on it bolted to my 2.5" catback

Sorry, but SUV's dont pollute anymore than a Honda. They have to meet strict regulations as everyone else around the country. True they might use a little more fuel, but go tell China and India who are consuming at a double or triple rate than we are. My friends 2003 Crew Cab diesel ford 4x4 is chipped and exhaust done and he gets 25 MPG even towing a trailer.
