d16y7 is it worth it?
i searched on how to swap a y7 into a 90 honda civic si, pretty str8 forward, wut im asking is it worth it, i wanna boost the engine, to be mild d series build up, my car is a shell right now and i need a engine, would it be wise to get the y7 which i can get for next to nothing, and swap it in, and actually boost it after bulding it, i seen guys do it before, wut you guys think. thanx.
The D16Y7 has its potential.
Later on if you want vtec its just a head swap away, harness and ecu away.
Anyways. I would do it if you have the items to swap it already and if you can find one for super cheap....Otherwise you should just get the D16A6. Much easier to work with cause it's pre-obd. And it is as basic bolt-in as it gets. It's factory. haha.
FYI:
I did a custom turbo setup on my brothers 96 Civic CX, D16Y7 and we ran a 15.918@85.67.
Not impressive, but we ran it with bad 3rd gear and an old oem clutch. We finished turbo setup and just decided to go run the next day with whatever we had.
Mods, specs:
-96 D16Y7 w/98k miles
-Tubular style manifold
-Garett T3 turbo from Saab 900S
-FMIC
-Greddy Type S BOV
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump
-12:1 FMU
-OEM honda 14" steelies with OEM tires with about 50% thread left.
-2.5" exhaust piping
-OBX-R exhaust
-K&N filter
-Arospeed coilovers
-Strut bars all around
Sorry for the write up, but wanted to give you some info on how we did.
With a good clutch and traction maybe we could've done better.
In your case...you have a lighter car to start with also.
