Default Couple Questions About Coilovers

I just bought a cheap pair of coilovers for now. Anyway for the days I'm not working I want to be able to just slam it as much as I can without rubbing or anything. Will I need to buy a camber kit if I drop it a lot? Also I'll need an alignment right? Also, if I lower it to much is it possible to blow my shocks? There stock for now. What do you guys think would be a safe drop?

I wouldnt lower it at all on stock shocks.
Every time you raise or lower the car, you'll need an alignment.

ya but you dont have to. most of the time that you would need to get an alighment is on the initial install becuase the lca is moving around more then usual. my friend raises and lowers is tanabe ss damper kit every month and he doesnt get any uneven wear on the tires. he doesnt have a camber kit either.

It's not about camber, it's about toe.

Toe changes in addition to camber when the ride height is changed, and toe is what eats tires for lunch if it's not set to within spec.

Fine tuning the height (like 2-3 turns on the collar) shouldn't be too bad, but drastic changes in ride height will require an alignment if you want your tires to last for any significant length of time.

This is why an alignment is always required after lowering the car, because the toe is thrown off after it's lowered.

All this stuff about camber eating tires has pretty much been a misconception over the years.

Thanks for the info. Will I be able to drop my car around 2" all around on stock shocks? Also, what shocks do you recommend? I see a lot of people use Koni Yellows.

i wouldnt lower it with the stock shocks......they are very prone to blowin out with a stiffer suspension.......i'de get a set of koni's if u want good quality.....they are pricy though, look around for deals.

Aright cool. Eventually though I want to do a ITR 5 lug conversion, will the struts, coilovers and shocks still fit?

you only have shocks, not struts, and yes they will fit if you retain the stock non-R rear LCA's.

If they're anything like the old Arospeed full coilovers, they're junk (friend had the Arospeed coilovers on his old car, terrible).

do you drive much? Are your tires super hard?

Most likely you're hurting performance and safety by not having the car properly aligned. Alignment DOES change when a Honda is lowered. No way around it, that's just the nature of the beast. When the ride height is changed, alignment WILL be out of spec, so I would advise having it done, whether or not your tires seem to be abnormally wearing or not.
