OIL?!?!
I have a 98 gsr with about 116k miles. people are telling me to use 10w30 and other people tell me to use 5w30 because of the weather? and i keep hearing about this royal purple?
Oil does not lubricate as well when it's cold, so it is sometimes recommended to use a lighter oil (5w30) during the winter season. If you aren't having any issues with rough starts or the like, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
if you are in so cal. sticking with 10w-30 will be fine. your weather will not affect the oil too much. even for me, where temps are single digit, i stick with 10w-30. royal purple is crap, they make it in a town near houston. i've been to their facilities...very poorly run business. if you want a good syn oil, stick with mobil 1 or castrol syntec. if you go with a dino oil, honda oil(made by mobil)/mobil or castrol gtx will be excellent choices.
dont get castrol synthetic it is not really synthetic (but you still pay the price of a synthetic)
stick to mobil 1.

Use 5w30 for cold... Use 10w30 for over freezing temps, this way you burn less.... I use royal purple but that's cuz I'm a baller... Use any synth oil. Mobil 1 is good...

what's wrong with that? have you tried it? does this oil have negative effects? unless this oil performs poorly, i don't see why you should have a problem with it.

ok if you ride in ur high rpm's a lot of the time u drive your car...use 10w40...if you dont warm up your car after a long time it has been sitting like over night then buy 5w30...but jus make sure u use high mileage and not synthetic
last week our oil supplier told me that they are not going to be carying conventional oil anymore they are only selling semi synthetic and full synthetic and the price is going up 3 bucks a case
btw we usually cary 76 motor oil and mobil 1 synthetic

Castrol quit using ethylene to make PAO feedstock. They use hydrocracked petroleum. Is it really synthetic? (I don't care as long as it works.) Since they're making it with a far cheaper process, did they lower their price? (I do care about that...)

you've seen good mad reviews? were the people mad?...is that a good thing?
i told you in my original post why i wouldn't use it. they don't keep a clean shop or testing facility, it is a poorly run business and it is overpriced.
damn people, you drive a mass-produced honda. a car built to be beat to hell and honda knows alot of it's drivers don't maintain them, except for us. you're wasting your money buying amsoil, redline, royal purple and such. just use mobil 1 if you want a good synthetic oil. you won't get more power or a longer engine life from the special oils. unless you track the car and it is at it's limits in terms of power. also, you'll notice all the top engine manufactures use and swear by mobil 1. it's damned good and proven, plus it's been around since the late 60's...they've had a little R&D.
but, to the original poster...stick with 5w-30 if the motor is in great condition. that is something honda does recommend. if it's burning a little oil, use 10w-30. you are not in a climate where tempature makes a difference on the weight of oil you use.

Valvoline MaxLife dino oil works for me. 183K on my car, and it doesn't burn or leak a drop. I change it every 3K miles, which has been about every 4 weeks these past few months.
Anybody seen the new synthetic MaxLife oil? Stuff is more expensive than Mobil1!

i have a 95 gsr and i use royal purple
i really like it i use 5w-30
i makes my cars temp drop about 25%
once i hit 55mph it also seems to
keep my valves from talking as much

Yeah seriously, a 25% drop in temp would be BAD I would think. Everything needs to be in a certain temperature range to run most efficiently. That's why the engine idles fast when it's cold, so that the catalytic convertor will get hot quicker, thus reducing emissions.

god jesus.....you live in california 5-30 for what.....yes you can use 5/30 but i would recommend 10-30....for two condition
your car has 117k miles
your car is not a new car
your car is not rebuild
cali wheather is good for 10/30
if you ask around and ACURA dealer...the ratios of peopel tell you to use 10/30 is more the ratios of people tell you to use 5/30
