Default Rear Brake Pad Change Problem

I was changing my rear brake pad on my 96 GSR this weekend and ran into problem. I was able to remove and swap out my rear brakes with Hawk HPS pads, but when I put everything back together the wheels did not spin freely. This was with the emergency brakes not engaged, but it felt more like the emergency brakes were on. I think I did everything correctly. I spun the piston back clockwise and I lined the notches on the inner pad to match the piston. So I don’t know what I did wrong. Any ideas???

What I did notice is that the outer pads of the Hawk HPS pads had the same notches to help line up with the piston as the inner pad (stock outer pads were completely flat and notchless). I was thinking this extra ~2mm caused by the notches is my brakes fit out too tight.

Anyways, I’m running on my old set of rear pads until I figure this out. Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Were you trying to spin it by hand? Have you driven it yet?

When I did the fronts, the pads/rotor fit so tight that the wheel wouldn't spin after I put brakes on. Once you drive it, everything will wear in right.

I've only driven it once and that time the notches on the pads weren't lined up so it felt like I was driving with the ebrake on. Pulled back into my garage and took off the wheel and pad to line every up and it still seems tight. Started my car still on jacks, pumped the brake a couple times and turned off car to check on the rear wheels. Still seemed tight. Did not get to take it off the stands for a test drive since I had an appointment within the hour, so I just slapped on the old pads and decided to figure it out later.

Any other views or suggestion would be helpful.

Did you use the stock shims??
Some pad manufacturers say not to use the shim.

No brakes shims were used.

A little bit of drag is normal. If you have too much drag it could be the sliders or the piston.

Did you regrease the sliders?

The piston could be seized, when rotating back in it might be hard to turn.

Simple test... on a mild incline does your car roll forward or back on it's own. If it does you're probably okay.
