Default Motor too old for synthetic?

My prelude's motor has roughly 120k miles on it. I'd say it burns over the normal amount of regular oil a month. Would my motor burn more oil when using synthetic or less? Besides the longer break down time of the synthetic oil, what other benefits are there in using this expensive stuff?

if u have leaks that are being covered up by thicker regular oil, the synthetic may end up clearing those out and exposing already present leaks, but it wont cause any
