i've had the swap done for a long time but I still haven't gotten this to work yet. I just installed a 90 teg vss and plugged it all in and still no speedo. can the cable come undone from the cluster? if so, how does that thing come out?

It can come out. why dont you check.... its easy.

 

I think there's a clip to connect to cable to the cluster. Try reinstalling the cable into the vss. I bumped mine once at it threw a cel. Cable could be broken.
