How to clean 97 EK headlights?
Hey guys,
Ever since I got my EK, (its a 97) the headlights have been faded looking and yellow-ish. I always thought this skank stuff was on the inside of the headlight, so I took them apart today with the intent of killing two birds with one stone; painting them, and cleaning them. Well the faded-ness is on the outsideand it wont come off, how do I get rid of it?
TIA, I searched but it was down, surely im not the only person with this problem.

Go do a search about this in the appearance and cosmetic forum there are many useful threads about how to clean them and get them looking brand new.
Edit: Damn the search function is still down. There are lots of products out there to tackle this task. Ricey's suggestion, I know either mother's or mequires sells similar stuff. Go to any auto parts store and ask them. This does take some elbow grease though.

I think Meguiars makes something called Plasticx or something to that effect. Check out http://www.meguiars.com.
I used that on my headlights, unforunately mine were bad enough that it KINDA works. I have seen with my own eyes this stuff work like a DREAM.

Yeah, I've always heard useing a good metal polish. I used some Blue Magic on mine after I wetsanded with Goo Gone. I had to get some clear coat overspray off of em, though.
well that is a nice write up but I use this stuff I purchased at the 99cents store.. Its a yellow bottle that says "LA's Awesome cleaner... Just spray and watch the yellow and cloudiness go away!!

metal can clear can be made to look good also,..all you have to do is sand down the lens,..spray on a few coats of clear,..wet sand the clear coats,..then buff out the lens

i took off my girls headligts from the car and sprayed carb cleaner on them. took about half a can per light and usee the yellow **** fall right off. then wipe them off and let dry, then get some 99c spray can clear from walmart and spray it on there. let dry for about 15-20minutes and they look 1000times better. i will post pics and maybe do a small write up later this week.
Hey, let me try to help you out.
If your headlights aren't clean after reading this thread and trying the things out, it's time for new headlights.
I've done every possible DIY to get out the fog. Wetsanding, polish, waxing and etc. Only one of my headlights came out looking new. But the other one stayed foggy, it helped a little but bahh, time for some new headlights
