Default Opened my long defunct tranny and found...nothing wrong???

Hey everyone. My first time posting here. I just tried searching for a thread that I saw about a year ago but for some reason the search function hasn't been working all day. It's been saying that the "server is temporarily unavailable". Anyway, I used to be pretty active on the Forced Induction Integras board but my '97 JRSC Civic EX has been on the back burner while I've been playing with my WRX. A little over three years ago my tranny started acting up. It started to grind when shifting into third at high rpm's. This lasted for about six months and then went away. The tranny worked fine for a few more months. One day, I was driving in 3rd and downshifted to 2nd just as I hit a really bumpy part of the road. It stayed in 2nd for a split second and then popped out of gear. It was after this incident that the tranny started popping out of second gear. It would only pop out of gear when load was applied. If I was coasting or decelerating in 2nd it would stay put. I tried holding it in 2nd with my hand whenever it would try to pop out of gear but that would just cause a nasty grinding noise at the very moment it would try to pop out. I pulled the tranny off and put a '98 EX tranny in that I got for $170. The swapped tranny grinds when shifting into 3rd at high rpm's...but it was acceptable at the time since my Civic was relegated to beater car duty upon arrival of my WRX. Well, I'm ditching my WRX for a new CR-V and I plan on restoring my Civic back to my auto-x machine. My old tranny was laying on my garage floor for about 2 years. The only thing keeping me from opening it was not having a pair of snap ring pliers...yeah, I'm that lazy. So today I got bored and decided to crack it open to see what kind of damage there was inside to determine whether or not a rebuild might be economical. I was expecting to find one or more of the following: missing teeth, bent forks, busted/worn synchros or something. All I found was a good amount of fine, metal particles stuck to the magnet inside the housing. None of the teeth show any wear and all visible parts on the main and counter shafts look fine...WTF? The thread I was looking for on here was started by a guy who had the EXACT same symptoms as I did. All told, he only had to replace a couple of small, inexpensive parts. I wish I could find that thread so I could see what those parts were so I can see if that might be the culprit in my tranny. However, the search function still is not working for me. If any of you know what thread I'm talking about please point me to it. Or, if anyone has some suggestions on other stuff to check please let me know. Thanks.

My eyes hurt from squinting. The SHIFT key is your friend. Hey, I was in a rush! Grammar is the last thing on my mind when rapidly spewing stuff from my mind. Anyway, back to cars...since this IS a car forum and not a grammar forum.

Here, I divided it into paragraphs so it is actually readable.

Hey thanks for all of the great tips as to what to look for in my tranny! So does anyone have anything constructive to say pertaining to cars around here or is everyone an **** retentive grammar ****? Now I remember why I never registered here and hung out exclusively on the FI Integra board.

That wasn't the exact thread I was looking for but it was VERY helpful and informative! Thanks....you assclown.

Burke, I live out by the airport. Maybe you can tell me about your turbo honda's sometime? I've been playing with the idea of ditching the JRSC and going with a turbo setup. I was using my WRX as my drag car and my Civic as an auto-x car. Since I'm getting rid of the WRX my Civic will once again be my toy. I'm looking for *****-to-wall power and the JRSC won't be able to give that to me. What I'm saying is, I want my Civic to be a drag car now....no double duty as an auto-x'er.

It's your ******* synchros and yes, they're inexpensive to buy, but unless you can take apart and reassemble your transmission - not the bell housing; the transmission - the labor cost is prohibitive.

And stop being such a ******* ****. No one likes a 500 word essay strung together in a block when some noobie's asking about the transmission he broke.

Get off of your ******* high horse and kiss my ***. I may be a n00b to this board but I'm far from being a n00b as far as cars go. The synchros appear to be fine. I do have a hydraulic press and all of the necessary tools to pull gears and stuff. Time is just a factor. I found the thread I was looking for https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=103578 Other people with similar symptoms as I had, had mainshaft bearing problems and/or input shaft bearing problems. I'll pop the bearings out and have a looksie.

You can also stop with the elitist attitude dude...you seem to forget that you drive a ******* Honda. I gave my reasons why all of the info was strung together in one mega-paragraph. I shouldn't have to justify my actions for you people but obviously you all have nothing better to do than to nitpick petty ****. That's sad. Again, kiss my *** for I could care less how you perceive my grammatical skills. :finger:

On a sidenote, I'm embarrased to share the same last name as you at the moment. However, since you could be a distant relative I would be willing to give you a sweet deal if you're still looking for a d16y8 swap...JRSC included. I just have to find a b18b swap first. The motor has 95k miles on it and the latest compression results were 190-190-193-188. I did the timing belt at 90k. Additional info available upon request.

Hey, I divided this up into paragraphs! You all happy now? Or do I still need to indent each one?

Get off YOUR high horse bro - you came here. One lesson in life you need to learn quickly is this: When you want help from other people, don't make it hard on them to help you.

If you can't see how this applies to you and your opening paragraph, as well as your overall attitude....well, you'll get it someday then, hopefully.

Did it really take you four tries to divide that into paragraphs or were a good three of those edits used for injections of - quote, unquote - "cleverness"? Just curious.

I think you'll quickly find that nothing pisses off members of this site more than a poor attitude and a chunk of text that spans 20 unbroken lines of the screen. I don't give a **** if your last name is Shelby: if you want to come stomping into uncharted territory, bring a bigger stick than the one you're carrying now because there's always someone online who will take issue with and action against your e-attitude. This time it was me, next time it might be :gasp: Voodoo.

And, just for future reference, if you have the time to pull your transmission apart time is probably not "of the essence". If it is, you could put the B18B tranny from that swap you're gushing about on your ride and take all the time you need to PROPERLY inspect all of the parts you claim to have taken a look at. Just my $.02.

Hey ma! No edits!

Actually, I edited it to make it sound a little more mature...unlike your first post in this thread where you felt name calling was the thing to do. I originally had stooped to your level of name calling but later felt that it added nothing but more foolishness to this thread.

Waveoff, you'll figure out how this place works soon enough. I didn't help you, because I wasn't reading that long clusterfuck of a paragraph you posted. You're going to keep running your mouth at the guys on here who have the most information until you're stuck being answered by 15 year old Sophmores in high school with no car, and even worse, no knowledge of what they're talking about other than what they're heard on here and take to be truth.

Archidictus is right. I would have torn you apart had I felt the need, and I'm happy for you that VtecVoodo doesn't hang out in this forum any more.

I do, as do others. I don't know that guy. The only interaction we will ever have is on this message board. If he can't form something that is easy to read and coherent, there is no reason for him to bitch about not getting help.
