Default ITR ECU fried?

I just installed a 97 ITR ECU into my 96 GSR. I did this because soon I will install a S2 manifold and later 00 ITR cams.

After I installed the ECU, I would start the car, it would idle for 3-4 seconds and then die out. I managed to keep the car on and took it for a drive. when I got back home it would no die but would idle at 1400-1500 pm.

I pulled out the back-up and ECU fuse and waited 15 seconds. I then started the car and it idled fine but there was a strange noise coming from the TB. It almost sounded as if the TB was open. Maybe the ECU was compensating for more fuel by opening the TB and letting air in?

I took some pics. can this be fixed or is it toast?

put your stock ECU back in or go with a tried and trued obd1 conversion with a chipped p28 with a OE ITR map.

If it was running fine before put the stock ecu back in. The problem could be that the gsr manifold has secondary butterflies in the runners and the ITR does not. Just a guess.

no....

if your ECU is a true OBD2 P73 there should be no problems idling whatsoever. I ran a JDM P73 on my GSR with no problems like you were describing for half a year.

There shouldn't be any problems unless the ecu is fried or has bad components.

Car is running fine now., It just sounds as if more air is going into the TB. The ECU is from a USDM ITR.

That costs a lot more

There is nothing wrong with running ITR ecu w/ what he plans to do

When you plugged the Type R ecu in you did disconnect the battery first didn't you?, because by not following that step you can do exactly what happened to your ECU.

I did unplug the battery. My guess is that it was bad to begin with. I will be replacing it soon with another one. I never smelled anything burt at all and I have burnt up 1 ECU before and they smell like **** when fried.
