helicoil rethreading?
Has anyone heard of someone using helicoils to rethread their block? I know helicoils work really well for low-torque applications but will they hold reliably @ 60 lb/ft? I think i may have stripped out one of my block threads putting in my arp head studs. I need a reasonable solution if this is indeed a problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you will most likely have to take the block up to a macghine shop and have a timesert installed. Helicoil is strong and can hold torque over 60 ft/lb but I would DEFINATELY never use it for head studs/bolt holes. In my opinion I would suggest that you take it to a machine shop to get it done becasue it sounds to me like you are not too experienced with installing timeserts or helicoil. If you do it wrong, you just ruined a block...

Yeah, they hold torque, but the ******* like to back out with the bolt upon disassembly.

Your right, ive never used a timesert or helicoil in a car motor. I use them alot in kart racing briggs motors, but none of those are recessed. Those motors are also torqued in in/lbs nowhere close to 60ft/lb.
would it be wise for me to go ahead and put the head on and torque it just to see? I am not positive that i stripped the threads.
I have no clue what it would cost at the machine shop to get that rethreaded.
