Filling tranny through VSS
I had a mechanic put pennzoil synchromesh in my tranny about a two months ago. Lately it started making a griding noise at 1 1/2 RPM in 2nd gear (kind of like the noise a manual car makes when going into reverse). I brought it back and the mechanic said he couldn't hear anything but me and my friends could. I was thinking maybe it was because they didn't fill it up with enough tranny fluid.
How do I go about filling it up through the vehile speed sensor. Do I just take it out and starting filling it up? How do I know when to stop?

If your car is manual you can fill it through the vss. Just open the fill bolt on the tranny and fill it through the vss until it comes out the fill hole. Torque it to 33ft/lbs and put the vss back in your done. If its an auto fill it through the dip stick hole keep checking it w/ the dip stick till its full on the stick
Yes, you have to open the fill-hole, only because you don't know how much fluid is already in it! Otherwise you could just pour in 2.3 quarts and be done with it....It's still easier to do it through the VSS, as all you will need is a long funnel...If you do it through the fill hole, you have to have a funnel, small hose going from funnel to inside of fill-hole, tape to hold the hose to the funnel, and a shitload of paper towels to clean up the mess you are going to make....I've done it both ways and I'd highly recommend doing it through the VSS, and just stop pouring when it reaches the fill hole.....
