how much oil in tranny?
i just put in a b16 tranny and i don't know how much oil to put in. i put in about 1.5 qts cause thats all the oil i had at the time. i put it in through the speed sensor cause i think its easier that way.
should i put more oil or did i put enough?
i tried the search, but its not working.
thanks

2.3 qts...if you must, fill through the speed sensor then open the fill plug to see if its filled or not.(upper left 17mm i bieleve bolt as you look at the side of the tranny)

no, no, no.
its 2.2qts for complete fill up, 2qts for fluid change.
goto honda and get the large crush washer, that goes on the "fill" bolt
then get the smaller crush washer that goes on the "drain" bolt.
drain fluid.
replace drain bolt with new crush washer
unbolt the "fill" bolt
add fluid through the VSS untill fluid starts to dribble out of the fill bolt
replace fill bolt with new crush washer
replace vss
and it should be broken in about 50 miles.

you dont understad; you put it in untill it starts to dribble out of the fill hole, which is usually about 2 qts.

I think the 2.3 number has a little overfill included. I just filled a brand new ITR tranny last night. I put in two liters (a little over 2 quarts) slowly and the fluid was just starting to come out of the overflow.
BTW, filling through the VSS hole is definitely the only way to do it.

In terms of oil, remember its a transmission, it takes transmission fluid, not motor oil. I reccomend Honda's MTF.
Search, you'll get a million opinions, most will say Honda MTF, or redline fluid, or the ever popular GM Synchromesh which they say is better.

The Acura Integra Helm's manual actually says to use 10w-30 motor oil and doesn't say to use Honda MTF. I've had both in my LS tranny and I can't tell the difference.

yeah, in some of the earlier 80s civics i think oil works okay in the tranny but with newer models you really ought to you use the OEM honda tranny fluid. it really isnt expensive, and i mean, honda puts out good ****, so why mess around with it unless your pushin 500whp?
