92 LX missing
I have a 92 LX, that has a stock motor. It burns alot of oil (1qrt + a week). It has a miss in 1st and 2nd gear. Also, the number one plug always fouls out. I did a compression test, and all cylinders are around 160. Any ideas on what the prob could be?? I have an EX motor that i was gonna put in it, but didn't know if there was anything else i could do to this motor to get it running right. Thanks
The oil issue, could be head needs rebuilding, seals are shot, pan gasket.
With the number one plug issue, head needs rebuilding. Valve guides and seats.
that would be missing issue too, plugs get fouled out and then engine wont run right. Bet you have power loss too when this happens. Makes it sluggish and all.
I would have to say replace or rebuild the head.
Is there lots of carbon on tail pipe? Smokes under hi rev?
Under load, like attempting a burn out or steep up hill, does is leave a cloud behind you?

No, it doesnt smoke alot. Do you think i would be better off just putting a new head on the motor, instead of a whole motor? You dont think the problem could also be in the bottom end?
Make sure your PCV and PCV hoses are clear and working. If engine puffs small amount of smoke at idle and then a larger amount of smoke on acceleration, this is symptomatic of worn valve stem seals. They can be replaced w/o removing the head.
good luck
good luck
If you are going for a better top end on your WHIP then yea, just do the head.
If you are just a daily driver then get a valve job done.
Wont need to replace the rings unless you find loads of gas in your oil. So look there, smell it or have it tested. If find a fair amount of gas in oil. Then do an oil change, drive about 500 miles then test oil again. If still large amount of gas then replace or rebuild.
And I would not say it would be rings as your compression is too high for it to be rings. avg. of 160 on all four. Not rings. Standard on compression is 178 psi 12.5 kg per cycl. min. is 135 psi, so no not rings. Unless you have a difference between cycl. of 28 psi. Like one at 158 and one at 130, then I would worry about rings as that is a bad cycl.
