Default brake lights

hi im having issues with my brake lights, i was wondering if someone ever had the same problem and could help me....

i have a 90 4 door teg... and jsut the other day for some reason the brake lights decided not to work no more.....when i put the brakes on the 4 ways come one....front and back....now i chaged the connectors and put some new lights but when i put the new lights in....if i have all 4 in the intencity is really weak....and the more i remove the lights, down to only one left...the intensity is ok and the middle brake light, in the back window lights up perfectly....but when all the bulbs are in it dosent light up and the 4 ways still go on....
can anyone tell me what the hel is going on thx

Sounds like an open ground? I don't have a '90 so you'll want a wiring drawing for your lights. The brake lights are grounding themselves thru the parking-light circuit, if their proper ground is not connected.

Use a multi-meter, check from a brake-light socket to ground. Somewhere you'll have to find one that's not connected.

If they're OK then maybe the circuits are crossed on the (+) side. That can be a real PITA to find sometimes...

check your bulbs, have you recently replaced a bulb? number one thing i always find wrong when cars come in is someone has put a bulb in backwards....people say it cannot be done but if someone forces it it will go in backwards, check your bulbs front to back and make sure the tabs line up, this is the easiest first step

Not only backwards, but I had a strange one a couple years ago. The 2 separate contact bumps on the base of a bulb were mashed down & pushed together (age & heat). They made contact with each other & the system did exactly what you're describing.
