Nitrous on Your Type R? Why?
This is not a post to start any flamewars or to rip on Type Rs with nitrous. I was just curious what motivated those of you who run nitrous on your ITRs, and what kind of results have you gotten from it? Have you encountered any problems in running nitrous?
I'm an all-motor guy myself, but I've been curious about how well a B18C5 holds up on nitrous. Thanks for the replies in advance.

I know a guy around here that has NOS on his GSR with a R build. Its pretty nasty. Hes spraying a 100 shot. I believe he turned a 8.6 on slicks...
BTW: That sux that someone deleted your avatar!

My buddy has Nitrous on his Type R... started off with a 50 shot, now moved up to 75 shot... that car is fast as fawk now! on the dyno with the 50 shot, i believe it was 227 whp... i'll try to find the dyno plot

Yeah, that's me, I started with a 50 shot and gained 54 whp and 65 ft/lb torque, now I'm running a 70 shot (cause I got spanked by a Turbo R running 15 psi) and it runs strong. I'm hoping that once I put the Toda As on, I'll be running 250+whp and over 200 ft/lb torque. On the 50 shot, I'm at 227 whp, 187 ft/lb torque
I have yet to have a problem (knock on wood) and there's Keith that's running 100 direct doing 13.1s all day. From what I know, he bent 10 valves powershifting down the track, but misshifted and bounced the **** to the revlimiter like 10 times. He can tell you the story.

That was his 1st time at the track with the nos. It was 8th mile and it was on street tires. It was a gsr with full interior and the motor was an lsvtec. Sorry for the misconfusion. I asked him and he told me it was lsvtec insted of gsr. But had full itr internals. Car is very fast. Alot faster on the street and at the street races than at the track.
And a stock type R will run 8.9-9.2? I have alot of faith in the car...but 8.9-9.2...sorry bud...no way. Flame me if you will...but thats a bad *** type R if its gonna do that especially on street tires with full interior. Maybe its just me...but a 14.7 baseline run of the stock type R in the 1/4 will equal about a 9.5 to 9.8 with a trap speed around 74 or 75 mph. Correct me if im wrong...

I ran a 13.9 in my '92 Si Hatch w/ITR swap, and my 1/8th mile time was a 9.029.
I've never seen a stock ITR come close to approaching those numbers, you aure about the 8.9-9.2 1/8th mile thing?
Back to the nitrous thing. For the guy with the 75 shot - what have you done to safeguard the engine? What sort of kit is it, and what kind of fuel enrichment are you running?
I'm curious because I work at a shop, and when people with ITRs ask me about nitrous, I can't honestly tell them what works and what doesn't work good.
Hope you don't mind educating me on this subject, but I don't want to be ignorant on this subject any longer.
I'm curious as to how well the ITR rods and pistons take the extra abuse that the nitrous deals out - no flame here, but you know that the nitrous adds stress to the mix.
BTW: those of you running nitrous, how frequently do you use it?
Thanks again...

Damn thats nice! I like that.
I believe an R with NOS would be a pretty stout car. I think it would work well because of the high rpms and the higher compression ratio. Thinking about it Tom? I wish you wouldnt have sold the Si b4 the dyno day on the 1st...i was looking foward to seeing it.

Oh no thanks, no nitrous for me - like I was saying above, i'm just looking for some ducation from experience, that's all.
I think the new CX will be a much better car overall than my old Si - believe me, I would not be going through all of this trouble if I didn't think i'd be getting a far better car.

My set up includes: NOS Nitrous Wet kit - 70 shot, Nx Purge Kit, Injen CAI, JDM 4:1 Header (thanks Mike K), OBD Test pipe, stock exhaust, ACT clutch, Vortech Fuel Rail, Vortech Fuel Pressure Regulator w/gauge, NGK 7011 spark plugs. As with most things about cars, I'm always learning more about Nitrous. High compression loves Nitrous. The ITR tranny is strong as hell. The motor is strong as hell. On the dyno, I had the 50 shot jets in, stock timing, stock fuel pressure, and it ran like .2 lean. If I can make a recommendation to those that are thinking about putting the bottle on your car, read up. Make sure it's installed correctly. Get an MSD Ignition (well, you should), plugs, plugs, plugs. Your plugs are going to go bad every 5-10 thousand miles so have spares ready. You should go with plugs two steps colder. I like the NGKs. Experiment. Start with a low shot and see how you like it, but more importantly, see how your car reacts to it. It's going to probably smell like **** the first few times because it's burning extra carbon. I've probably been through 8 or 10 bottles and my car runs strong. Sure, I can brag about how my car has more horsepower than yours, but I'll also be the first one to post when it blows up. I watched my friend's SI burn up when the Nitrous backfired through his intake and caught his filter on fire. There's stories and stories about how nitrous did this or how nitrous did that or how someone's friend's friend's dad's cousin's friend with this or that car blew his motor. I've had Nitrous on my car since the 1,000 mile mark and I've only lost one race to the turbo R running 15 psi. It's fun, but don't take advantage of it and KEEP RACING AT THE TRACK!!
yep I'm keith with the bent *** valves
.....I stopped powershifting since then and NO problems thank god
I'm enjoying the nitrous but this summer I plan to start turbo boostin
10-12 lbs. or so we'll see....I run 13.1's all day at the track in Orlando but run 12.8's and basically any other track like moroso or gainesville....my mph is like 109 most of the time it's quite fast but I'm tired of FILLING THE BOTTLE EVERY TIME I GO RACE....so I'm saving for turbo right now
speak of which RealTypeR hey bro you still goign to dyno day email me bro I still wanna ride with ya

Oh yeah, that's actually me in the avatar. I put the Nitrous kit on my car because I got pissed off at my girlfriend and felt like spending money on me rather than her. It's the cheapest way to go fast and it's NOT for cheaters
It is nice to see people go different ways with their Set-ups. I would suck to have everyone doing the same thing with their mods. I think it is neat to have people with Turbos, N/A, Nitrous, Superchargers, ex. Adds a little to the mix.
i agree with you, i love it that my car is fast all motor . and can go even faster with the hit of a button. its great . i wanna go turbo too and push down my shot. but money issues. . . . but all in all i love nitrous and think its a great way to make power when you need it and its realtively cheap .
i think the r motor is a great motor to work with in any fashion , wether its na , fi or whatever.everyone gots their own taste so lets keep our eyes open on that and not start a war over , drag racing and road racing, or na vs. fi .
we all got r's and we need to see that we have that in common and work together and learn from eachother and help eachother.

I have always been one of the biggest NA fans you'll ever see, but once when RealTypeR got drunk he gave me the keys and I was more than impressed with the way this car felt, broke the tires loose like many of the huge NA motors I have driven, and he had nothing more than the bottle in there, stock exhaust and everything, I can't imagine what this thing does once it's built up for more of a shot.
My friend has been pushing me to spray my car for about a year now. He just helped a guy get a sponsorship through a Nitrous company and is trying to do the same for me. If its free I'll give it a whirl, but if not it probably would happen.
BTW My ITR on Drag radials Turned 1.9 60ft, 13.58 1/4 and it only ran 8.80 in the 1/8, there is no way a stock R runs that fast in the 1/8

Make sure your timing is set right, I was having detonation problems that I didn't know about until my valve retainer broke and I'm not sure if the valve punched a hole in my piston or the nitrous had, 55 shot by the way. Zex. Didn't even make it through the whole bottle.
