Default weird idle and occasional CEL

I've been having problems with my car idling lately. I'd turn the car on and it'd idle high, like usual, but after driving to normal temps, when I come to a stop the car's idle would drop to 700. Then rapidly climb to 1500rpms, and bounce between 1500 and 1000 for about 10 seconds, then settle at 1000. I'd also get an occasional CEL at startup. I don't have a code reader available right now to check that out, but I'd reset the ecu and the code will not come back for a couple days. I've checked all vacumn lines and they seem ok. I have a carsound cat and I've heard of them going bad. Would a bad cat cause a weird idle like this??? Maybe the IACV going bad??? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Make sure you have the right plugs on the right sensors. You don't need a code scanner you can do it yourself and just open up a honda manual and see what it is you will have to locate the plug from up under the dash it's a 2 prong plug i think it's blue it's up under the dash by the ECU on the right hand side of the car and just use a paperclip or a wire to jump it and the codes will flash on the cluster long flashes go by 10's and the quick short flashes go by 1's so if you have one long flash and 4 short flashes that's code 14 that would be your IACV.

I know I could read the code, but the idle is there even without a CEL. The idle is my main problem. I'd like to know what my symtoms sound like. The weird idle's always there. The code only comes on startup like once a week.

I'd check your idle, make sure the screw isn't working its way loose

the screw is fine. If it was that, the idle would never settle

no, if it was out of spec, you would be idling high and your ECU would struggle to settle it. Both of which are your symptoms, but hey, you obviously know more than me, so don't even bother checking it.

well I went to adjust my idle today and when I unplugged the IACV, the engine rpms didn't budge, (bad IACV?). I thought nothing of it and went about adjusting it anyways. After I got the idle right, I reset the ecu and started it back up again. Car still bounces in rpms. What does this mean, is my IACV bad?

well I fixed it. Turns out the IACV just needed a simple cleaning. Purrs like a kitten now. Thanx for the help
