Default Jet Hot guys?

I just got a JDM 4-1 and I seen a couple of people post some pics a long time ago. The satin finish looks really nice, but I have a couple ?'s for you guys. How is the coating holding up? Has it changed in color any? Since you have done it, is it really worth the $160 they quoted me?

Thanks!

Corey

P.S. Is it too much trouble for you guys to post those pics again?

Here are the pictures. The first one is right after I received the header back from Jet Hot, I set it out in my faux grass and took a picture. The second is after the header was on the car for awhile and turned more of a dull silver. It has retained this color since turning. Worth the money? In my opinion yes, you can still feel quite a bit of heater coming off the header but it sure looks better than rust.

I got mine done in gray (it looks plain so I won't post a picture).

I am not sure if it was worth it. However, the fact that the header has a lifetime warrenty with the coating is the part I was interested in. Makes the resale value much much better.

Oh, make sure you port and polish it before getting the coating. I never did that one mine and I wish I had.

I don't think it is too late. However, call Jet Hot and ask them, that is your best bet.

Mr. JDM,

No, I didn't what was it?

Jet Hot did not do this; this was done at HPC Coatings. This is about a year old and I have had not discoloration. It's hard to tell if it reduced much engine temps but I like to believe it did

Gravity,
HPC can do a used header. I had my Spoon header on for 2 mounts before sending it off for coating. They charge you a $20 stripping fee if it has been used.

can't put a heat shield on an aftermarket header unless it's the JDM 4-1

Thank you for the pics man! Looks really nice. I have another ? for you though. Who removed the mounting brakets off the header? When I looked at it at first, it looked weird, but then realized something was missing.

Thanks again and Merry X-Mas fellas.

It's too shiny to tell! I don't think so, it's a 4-1 i think. But the black-coated header is spoon.

Saw a few posts about Jet Hot and I ust wanted to put in my 2 cents in...

Lots of guys on the board have had great results with them (yes the stuff works good and yes you can coat used parts), but here is my story:

Got a JDM 4-1 earlier this year (through the group buy--courtesy of Trey). Took forever and a day to get it, but hey, sometimes things go like that. Got around finally to get it welded up so I could port out the welds on the inside...did that and I sent it off to Jet Hot for coating.
Couple of weeks passed and I finally got the header back. The header arrived wrapped 1 or 2 sheets of styrofoam sheet, with one corner of the flange sticking out of the box: the packer at JetHot who had my header, tried to stuff a 15" wide header into a 10" wide box. Granted the box is double corrugated...I'm not sure why it was even attempted. Now I'm sure the gorillas at FedEx had something to do with the "handling". The net damages were the flange was dented (we're talking a thick *** piece of metal here) needless to say the coating was scratched off and the collector was dented in. Needless to say I was at condition Hella Pissed.
So I started a claims process with FedEx through JetHot...they issued a call tag for the header and it was picked up for inspection at Fed Ex and is now back at JetHot.
For an idea of the time frame involved here, I sent back the header for coating late September. And the call tag/eventual pick up occured late October...and I have yet to see any results (it is now the end of December for anybody keeping track) I'm not sure where the bottle neck is occuring, but I have yet to hear back from JetHot: weekly phone calls go unanswered nor was contact ever initiated by JetHot. And FedEx is less than coorporative. I understand due to the holidays and all things get hectic, but the next step will be the BBB. And if I can find no resolution there, you guys will hear it first. My guess HPC, Airborne, Swain, MicroCoat and others may pick up a small bump in business in the near future.

Bottom line is: the header is damaged from the lack of packaging protection (I feel) and if all their shipments are insured (like JetHot says they do), then I should in theory have either a) a check for the value of the header or b) some suitable/equivilant replacement. To this date, neither has occured.

So the next time you guys think about going with JetHot and got 'em on the line, ask them about their packing and shipping procedures--since you heard one of your fellow comarades had a header fall victim and have yet to hear of any resolution...

Just had to vent.

edit: Forgot to say Happy Holiday guys!

-Geo

It is a JDM header and I removed the mounting brackets from the header. It took a little time but I figured since I was not going to use them then why keep them there.

Just to let everyone know, if they don't know, that Swain Technology, Inc. (on the east coast) does similar coatings plus more. They have coatings for any part. They have coatings to keep heat in (for headers), coatings to draw heat away (brake calipers), and other types of coatings. They develope their own coatings. I don't use their products or gain anything from anyone using their products. I just wanted to let everyone know of a competing company/service. Look here: http://www.swaintech.com

I got mine coated at a local place. It took them a week, and I am very happy with the results. As for discolorization...I guess it turned slightly greyer. Looks good though, and guaranteed not to rust.

BTW, It cost me like $120.

I've used Jet Hot coatings on past customers DC Sports S/S headers. They were more concerned about not having their header discolor as S/S ones will.

Thanks,

What exactly is port and polishing?

Edit: And would you jet hot coat (or whatever it's called) to a ceramic coated header? Or is that what the ceramic already is? And if that's the case, why go with SS over ceramic coated, when Ceramic is cheaper?
