ATS 4.9 FD users: How many of you are daily driven?
How many of your ATS FD owners are daily driving your R's? I guess it's just a matter of opinion, but some people say it's a mistake to daily drive with the 4.9. Others say they wouldn't drive it any other way. What do youuu think?

when i still had the car, it was daily driven.....
actually thought the car did better in stop and go traffic... did not have to rev it to high to get it going...
now on the highway its a different story....

Daily driven when I had it in. Like CMDR said, on the street its actaully better due to the fact you don't have to down shift to pass any more. As for on the highway, you are looking at some nice RPMS, but its not a big deal. Did South Florida to NC with the ATS and ITR 5th gear at about 100mph (6k rpm) no problem. Sure the noise gets a little anoying, but not a big deal.
I'll be putting the ATS back in shorlty once I get it back from marc.

I don't daily drive my R but if I did I'd still have the ATS fd.
Trust what everyone says, it really is the best mod for your R.

When I daily drove it there were no major drawbacks.
Around town and especially with a LWFW driving was more pleasurable.
Highway driving is good as well but mostly depends on the speeds you'll cruise at. It's only 400 odd rpm higher in every gear.
It only gets annoying on longer road trips at higher speeds, like constant 90 mph to the Expo. Ooops did I say that.
It's actually many times nicer on the highway when in 5th since you no longer need to downshift to pass.

depends how many daily miles you put on the car.....
the ATS is awesome
but if you put A LOT of miles on the car, it could get very annoying,
plus the extra stress on the motor, from higher rpms, for an extended period of time

Not worth it, neither is the GSR 5th.
Talk to rodney if you want a first hand explanation.

Hey Marshall, I've decided to get it. Can you tell me again the deal with AJ-racing?
Instead of taking the tranny apart, I just want to drive up to Canada and have them install it. How much was it, and was the service good? I've heard good things about AJR, but just trying to confirm since you've done it already.

It cost me $645 + JDM 1st gear (I forget the exact price). The installation took ~2hrs while I went and saw Vin Deisil's XXX up at the closest theater. I got back and my tranny was waiting to be picked up. I believe the install cost was $150CAD, which is ~$80 U.S. Everything has been great with the tranny...no negative feedback whatsoever to report. Keep in mind I had the tranny out and took it up there in a van, so install cost and time will go up with the tranny still on the car. For the ~1.5 hours it takes to drop the tranny, its worth it to do that yourself instead of spending lots of labor dollars.
Let me know if you need any help dropping the tranny, tools, etc. Also, whats this I hear about a track day the 16th?

I see, I guess I'll figure out which way to go, whether to just take the tranny or drive up there. Looks like you can save $$ by taking the tranny out, though.
Yeah, AFAIK, the 16th is still on, and I'm signed up. Kind of late for Proformance, but they're doing it. I have a new coilover suspension that I'll be testing that day, so it's a good opportunity.
You should come out, if you can. Afternoon lapping is reduced to $150, from the regular $175 price.

The ATS Final Drive is the best mod you can do for your R.
I took an 8-hour roadtrip at a constant 85mph which is ~5000rpms in 5th gear. It's not that bad if you have a fairly quiet exhaust. Just turn up the radio and roll out.
I've been daily-driving on it for a year with no problems, and I sit in traffic for about 45 minutes each way with my commute everyday.
All the R's I drive without it feel SO tame.
Get it and never look back!

i drive mine daily with it, and it's only really noticeable on the interstate. the ATS has been my favorite mod to my ride so far.
