Realtime racing: NSX Airbox Theory
Ok Fellas...
I was reading Sport Compact Car and they had some infos on the Speedvision Cup. They had pics of cars, and one caught my eye. It was a pic of the Realtime Racing NSX. Then I had an idea. I bet the ITR's use the NSX airbox so all RT cars use the same air filter. They can save money that way, and only have to worry about one part number.
Did I solve the mystery???

all you ITR guys are always asking about the NSX airboxes in the Realtime Racing ITRs. My theory is that they are able to standardize the air filters and hence save money.

I agree. No ABS so they figure why not take advantage of a big *** air box. (maybe not it those exact words
)
)
the reason the the realtime r uses the nsx airbox
is because it is bigger
is because it is bigger
ha, ha,, that is funny. The air filter is about the cheapest part on the entire race car, I really doubt they are concerned with saving a few pennies on an air filter considering all the other expenses with running in that series. Performance is king in racing, saving money on air filters is not that important.

Dont they use it because the rules dictate the use of a factory air intake system?
I believe that the rules for the TC championship are open to interpretation. The rules changed frequently in the past seasons.
Just look at the weights added to Kleinubings car giving it less of an advantage.
Then look at the Bimmers and that they were chassi up purpose built cars.
Then look back at the RealtimeR's and how they were modded, "Minimally!"
I'd speculate that they chose tha NSX airbox for YES better Freer flow of air into the REDUCED SIZED INTAKE for the RealtimeR's. The TB was restricted with a plate that only allowed like a 57mm opening if I remembered correctly. All in the name of making the cars more even. H'mmmm Doens't sound fair to me but made for some grat racing.
And to think that the ITR is so potent stock that a series racing team modded so little to it for it to take so many championships. Well, lets not forget the drivers like Kleinubing that made it a winning car over and over.
Competition in that race series was fierce and they attempted to keep everything as even as possible.
I can't imaginw then using the box solely for saving a few bucks on intake filters.
Good luck,

Also,
There may have been a mandate in the rules that stipulated stock intake or something.
Well, the NSX box is a stock piece right? Stock for Acura? But, just stock for an NSX instead of an ITR.
Remember too that Foo's car was built with almost all Stock OEM Honda parts.
Stock parts aren't bad. There are aftermarket parts that will increase performance. But, with all their testing and how the regulations affected them, Maybe they decided that something lying on one of their shelves would yield the best performance.
H'mmmmm
