EP3 Challenge
Just is case some of you guys didn't see this post....

I wanted to make sure that all EP3/DC5 drivers had a chance to attend this challenge event.
Also, what about a 2nd and 3rd Gen. Integra/Civic challenge. There must be a lot of you guys out there that would like to have this. Any feedback on that would help me put it together.
Thanks, Chris.

Do your participants know that if damage happens to their cars during this event, it will not be covered by their personal car insurance because it is a "race" event and not a driver's education like a NASA HPDE, Carguys, etc. event?
For those who are not familiar with our time trail challenge events, it's not ran like a wheel to wheel race. Matter of fact, the time trail part of the challenge is set up so only 3 - 5 cars are on the track at any one time, so there is no proximity problems on track. Our safety regulations are quite secure. This challenge style has worked out well for RedlineTrackEvents. We've tested this for over a year now with the Focus Challenge. This isn't something I'm just tossing out there in the mists of an open track day. I appreciate your concerns, but these challenge series are set up for friendly competition at the track, not a full blown race.

Thanks for organizing events. I wish more us will do so... however, just make sure that you tell participants that as soon as you introduce a clock to the equation, insurance is out the door. Remember you can have an incident on the track that does not involve another car.

This is quite true. It should be noted that anytime timing equipment is used, there is a great chance that insurance and warranty coverage may not be covered. You'll have to check with your insurance company to make sure what is and what is not covered. Warranty coverage is a different story, and you should also check with your Car manufacture for all warranty concerns.
With that said, if there is any more feedback for a challenge event to be held for any car specific class, please post feedback.
The Focus Challenge has proven to be a great success, and they have even gained the attention of aftermarket companies as well as from Ford. These challenge series can prove to be great fun at the track as well as helping promote anything performance related.
There is a good number of HT people coming out to open track days. I've gotten some requests to start up challenge series based on several Honda models. I was thinking that I may be able to lump some of these similar car classes together so we can have some challenge series happening.

You could call it *GASP* Honda Challenge!

When you introduce timing to driving on the track, most less experienced drivers will begin to take risks that they would not otherwise take in a normal DE environment - and many times they will not have the experience or crisis management skills to handle it when that risk does not pay off.
Safety gear (belts, rollbar, fire proof gear) should be mandatory - one thing that does is keep the less experienced away (i.e. they're not going to invest in all that $$ if their daily driver is their track car and they only do a few events or have just started out).
All IMHO.

I'm trying to give track drivers what they want in terms of friendly competition.

Yes.RJ, good point. Lest assume that the people who are asking to participate in these challenge events are already aware of the risk of track driving. We offer timing at all events, as well as the proper schooling that anyone would need to attend an event. Safety will be, and is always foremost on our minds at Redline.

I was being sarcastic... I thought it was funny and that's good enough for me!
Do you require any sort of license or can any joe schmoe with a roller participate in these events? That really is my only concern. When an unexperienced driver begins to push the limits, bad things can happen.

I think what others are asking is if there is an insurance policy to cover your asses/the tracks asses in the event of personal injury due to on track actions.

That's cool, sarcasum is fine with me. I use it as often as I can...
To answer your question, no. Not just any Joe schmoe can roll in and be left to his/her own devices on a road course. No racing license is required, but a certain amount of track experience must be obtained. Most of the people waiting for the creation of these challenge events have already attend many RedlineTrackEvents, and there skill level is know. Unknowns well be arranged to enter challenge series under close observation. Or will be required to complete our high performance driving school before let loose on a race track.

sounds fairly legit then, much like the NASA time trials offered to group 3 students.</TD></TR></TABLE>
The key words in your sentence... Group 3. Group 1 or Group 2 students are not allowed (our shouldn't be) to time trial.
Nonetheless, it is great that he is putting on an event. I hope everything goes very well and it is much better to do stuff like this on the track than on the street.
Good luck.

I dont even think group 3 students should be doing time trials... IMHO... in retrospect... either that or they shouldnt be bumped up to group 3 so quickly (not a stab at NASA - I see it with just about every club).

Sure, Integra's will be fine.
Our EP3 / DC5 challenge will be happening on Nov 19. at the streets of willow.
All the new Si's and RXS's will be involved in this first
Honda/Acura type challenge. I want to make a challenge
for the older models out there as well.

I cant speak for OTC but when I was in the group 4/TT group (yes they run together
) with NASA-OH there were TT cars out there with no additional safety eqip.

Sure Jeff. But I may be forced to bring my CRX out to play with you!
I am not quite sure why everyone is questioning this type of time trial. Especially at a track like "Streets of Willow"! We have been running these things for quite awhile now, and the time trials always run without a hitch! They are well organized, and safe!
As far as the insurance goes, not to many people come to the track with the idea that if something happens, they just call there insurance company and they take care of it. Truth of the matter is that it depends on what company you have and which track organization you run with. "Some" will go out on a limb a bit more to help you with your insurance than others.
I hope to see more people take advantage of these types of opportunities! They are fun, relatively low risk, and quite enjoyable! Our safety record speaks for itself, and so do the numerous HT members that frequent our events.
BTW .RJ,
Since you are such a vocal person on these forums, I would like to extend an invitation to you. Next time you are in cali, you can come on out to our trackday free of cost!
Then you will see we run things at one of our trackdays!

Eyeryone keeps talking about insurance coverage. With or without timing involved you're going to play hell trying to get your insurance to cover damages these days.
