Default JDM front end

ok I got a question for all of u people who have done the JDM front end conversion as I am seriously considering it. I've been told that it is...

1) Not as safe in an accident

2) Decreases the integrity of the vehicle as factory welds are removed.

I could be totally wrong, i sound like a noob with this question so by all means flame me, especially if I missed it when I searched.

safety is an issue because of the USDM re-bar size compared to the JDM one. Look up my thread about myself wrecking my R, you will find pics of both reinforcement bars for a comparison.

As long as there is no load on teh chassis when its being put on, the welds should be fine. I think having a good shop do the work is a better question.

i dont have the same bumper big thing on my euro itr... i guess it's just the us safety bumper they add on. which also makes sense for the itrs here being lighter than the usdm ones.

you can use the USDM rebar with the JDM conversion if you wanted too.

you don't use the foam backing and you have to shave the corners of the USDM bar to fit it. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by xdriver &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">you can use the USDM rebar with the JDM conversion if you wanted too.</TD></TR></TABLE>

make sure its not half ***'d though cause you won't have room for the foam backing so the trimming must be sufficient enough so that it won't scrape the back of the urethane bumper. Some other front ends other than the JDM OEM one should allow room too, i think the C-West one works. Check up with my boy Kicker773 cause he's got that setup.

I remember an itr member did the conversion using the USDM rebar. Do you still have that thread on hand?

I did it on my R. It wasn't too hard. You just have to make a 2 notches into the grill area on the jdm bumper. I did not like cutting my bumper but I was able to fit both the USDM Bar and Foam. The foam I had to cut a lil but it fit.

He's basically saying that since you have to remove factory welds to put the jdm bumper reinforcement bar on, you're altering the usdm-spec crash standards (in a negative way). Just look at the pics that Nvious R posted. The jdm reinforcement bar is like a toothpick compared to the usdm one.

Yes, the bar will fit the UDSM front end since the bolt patterns are the same. As far as the USDM bumper cover fitting over it, I haven't confirmed it myself.

I'm the guy who posted the pics of the USDM to JDM bumper reinforcement conversion but my gf's webspace went down. I'd like to get the pics/website back up but I don't know how. How much is it to have a website and how much memory do you get?
