I started this in the Audio/Security forum, but I thought I'd get my fellow R guys get their own say on it.

Valentine 1..... It's the best, KA band alarm will go off like nuts when a cop's near by. save me tons of times.

Valentine 1, for what i saved in getting tickets its definitly paid for itself more than once.
There are a ton of threads on radar detectors. Anyhow I personally like the V1, hence the reason I've purchased two so far

there is a lot of "radar" threads, but none show details or personal experiences of it. almost all are the typical yea, i heard, i heard, i heard, i heard. the purpose of this is for people that actually have radar detectors and for them to tell us what they think.

I have an old version of the Bell 997-R.
I would rate it as a 8.5. It has saved me TONS of times in the 4 years I've had it. It could have better range, but thats partly do to it being mounted 10'' off the ground.
I would recommend it for anyone wanting a steath unit.

Passport 8500 works pretty well. Very sensitive, so it picks up signals at a pretty good distance.
Works too well perhaps, as driving on I-95 through CT, its pretty much going off non-stop sinceI-95 has those radar emitters every 1/2 mile or so there to keep the speeding down.
I've had some experience with my friend's V1 in his Jetta. It works pretty well also, the directional indicator is a nice thing, but he's a 'typical jetta' driver, aka aggressive, tailgates u like mad, drives it fast thinking its a bmw or audi. He still gets tickets.

I use a V1.
My parents were SO IMPRESSED by it when I lent them my best friend's for a weekend trip that they Bought 2 with concealed displays IMMEDIATELY after getting back.
VERY HAPPY WITH THEM.
My friend who lives in Quebec where they are illegal had it tested by a hookup at the police department and even a few feet away the radar detector detector couldn't find it.
Finally, we've lent it to friends in Europe (KU band) and they were also extremely impressed...
V1 ALL THE WAY.
400$ may be a lot but a ticket will cost you more when you factor in an insurance price increase!

yup. for all those guys with detectors, make sure your shts got Ku band. more and more cops use that new band to catch people speedin. if your unit doesnt have Ku, it will NOT detect the cop gunning you.
