Default oil check light, help me...

Well...i have a 95 eg with a z6...

I let the car warm up to operating temp before i usually drive it. There's no oil check light at first...when i start driving don't notice anything but maybe a little noise that sounds like rod knock at low revs. After driving for a while, while slowing down and braking, oil check light comes back on and flashes (once below 1k rev's, it comes on)...and once the light comes on while slowing down, the car dies sometimes...

Checked oil level and oil level is good to go

2nd Person opinion says its rod knock...

Could it be rod knock? or could something else be the problem?

Weird, I got on today to post this EXACT problem. Im almost postive mine is rod knock but want some other opinions. How long will the motor last if it is rod knock? It's been doing it about a week, Adam

Ok, my oil light is only coming on sometimes, only at idle, and it flickers. I changed to oil to make sure it had fresh oil in it and it still does it. But the weird thing is the cluncking noise. It sounds like pinging, but not marbles, BOWLING *****. It's only under light throttle and again when returning to idle. I can feel it under the valve cover. I think rod knock would be all the time. WHat else could it be? I'll pull the valve cover tomorrow. Adam

Sounds like your pump is going bad or has gone bad. Your oil level in that case wont matter much, but he's right check it out. If that's a rod you hear knocking get on that **** asap. I didn't, my car go BOOM.

add lucas oil stabilizer... it will help make a knocking engine last longer. i had a rod knock in my LS for like 2 months and i was using some thicker oil and lucas stabilizer to make it last longer. it really helped but then i got tired of it and blew that bitch up!

He can still save the block can't he, possibly rebuild it? That's got to be cheaper than replacing the entire thing.

well...

indeed, it was rod knock...got louder and louder, but i was too late...

so i found another block...currently in the process of putting it in...

a new block or motor was my only choice...

went with just the block, the old one will be kept as a spare to mess with in the future...

Sucks man...same thing here...only my oil pressure sending unit was bad and wasn't lighting my oil lamp. Noticed I was leaking oil from the oil sending unit, replaced it, now having same symptoms as you, just not as bad I don't believe.
