ADVANCED FINAL REVIEW: 2MD ACTION CLUTCH, mixed feelings
well...its been about a week or so now, maybe a tad more
as i said before when i first got the clutch, day 1 was great, felt awesome, grabbed nice (although i was breaking it in gently for 300 miles)
day 2, same thing, felt great, shifted great, not overly hard to drive around
the flywheel made the combo a tad harder, since i have a TODA flywheel
well, now its been about a week, and here is the FINAL CONCLUSION BELOW:
the cons:
the clutch is a 6 puck and combined with the 7.9 lb toda fly, the car has become very tough to drive in stop and go traffic. It has actually got harder to drive after i fully broke it in for a week or so, than it was day 1 or 2
the clutch is also VERY VERY annoying at times
if you are at a full stop and need to get rollin into 1st gear and on your way, it is very picky. You have to time it perfect and give just the right gas at the right times
if you try to slide the clutch AT ALL, or dont shift hard....any slippage at all with make a LOUD squeling noise that resembles the combonation of burning out and a belt squeel
this can happen in ANY gear. If you shift from 1st to second and dont shift nice and clean or dead perfect everytime, if you slip the clutch in the slightest, or show any imperfection in the least (no joke), the clutch makes a loud quick squeel (spelling)
the squeeling seems to only start after you have put a few hundred miles on the clutch, seems like it needs to be broken in before the pads squeel
i called my mechanic, he told me that since it is a 6 puck and ceramic and kevlar and all that ****, that i will get that squeel anytime i try to slide a clutch, that is in no way slide friendly
flywheel is nice, go toda! but aids in making this clutch not very streetable in the city
stop and go, makes me cringe in anger and frustration
it is kind of embarrassing to have your car squeeling everytime you cant go into first perfectly (and trust me, im an excellent driver and i still do this 40% of the time)
this clutch wants to make your car do 4 thing and 4 things only:
1. stall
2. burn out
3. squeel really loud and **** you the **** off (anytime you come off clutch slowly or shift with any imperfection, like the foot not 100% off the gas)
4. give rapid clunking jerking vibrations if you try to baby it comming from a dead stop to rolling foward in 1st or reversing (more rare)
reverse is also tough, the car wants to just get up and go now, which sometimes is not what you want when trying to inch foward or back. And once again, inching foward slowly, in a way, requires sliding of the clutch a tad, and good luck with that, if you can, great! but prepare for a squeel of some sort from the clutch
the pros:
i have tested the clutch now at higher RPMS as well
grabs awesome!
this clutch grabs so damn hard, that if your a good driver, you can almost eliminate the feeling of shifting gears, other than your tires spinning when you shift, lol
i brought my car right to my 9200 RPM redline with a JRSC as well and the car grabs flawlessly
Overall Final Conclusion and Rating:
great clutch for a professional driver who tracks their car a lot and wants a clutch that can handle a large amount of power effortlessly
very noisy, very annoying, very frustrating, hard to drive in the city and not a clutch for a novice driver, especially when mixed with a light flywheel, can you say stall and much swearing?
from a 1-10 10 being positive, 1 negative
grabbing power 9
power handling 9
ease of use on street 4
ease of use on track 7
ease of use on drag 6
noise 2
chattering 6
recommended? only for particular applications
someone asks about chatter, it only does it very very minor and only when cold, after warmed up, within like 3 mins, its 90% gone
anymore questions or anything i forget, please ask

I also get the squeal with my set up.. actually my setup sounds and acts very close to your description. I have the ACT xt-ss with comptech FW.
One question, How far off the floor does your clutch start to grab and pull the car forward? Mine is with-in 1 inch and that translated in to hard downshifts on a road course.

only if i dont rev match
when i rev match, i have no problems
heel-toe works fine, pretty smooth
the clutch is great and flywheel is great....when it's not squeeling or at a red light

You only have problems heel-n-toe'n when you don't rev match?
< thought you pretty much had to when heel-n-toe'n or there would be no point lol.
Maybe some of you guys just like jabbing the gas and brake at the same time when slowing down.

You bought a clutch for a race car and used it on the street, what did you expect? You want stop and go drivability why did you get a 6 puck?

bbasso- I have the exact same set up you have. Have you tried adjusting the threaded rod behind the clutch pedal inside the car. I did this a few times after installing the clutch and it now picks up right at stock. The only thing you have to be careful of is making sure you leave enough travel in the clutch pedal to allow it to fully enguage/disenguage.
I had the 2md on my car. At first, I hated the damn clutch because of the noises and the burnouts. The damn thing grip like a *****. Azcheron is right, the damn thing is picky. So I decided to downgrade to the 1md (purchased from Rocket himself) mainly because I burned something inside my tranny and also because of the squeling noises and burnouts. To my disappointment, the 1md causes more noises than the 2md did and the 1md gripped not as noticeable as the 2md. Now I'm stuck with the 1md that squeels everything now and then. I miss the 2md, but don't wanna go thru the hassle of pulling the tranny off again. I would definitely go with the 2md again and it's very streetable--maybe because I did not have an performance flywheel. You just have get use to the clutch.
Below are some pictures of the 2md that caused my TO to burn/melt. As you see in the picture, the hole/spinal is suppose to be shaved down so it won't rub/grind against the TO (according to Rocket). Rocket said that Alex from Action can grind/shave it down for me.

HEY! That's what it sounds like! Slipping belt/burnout. I hadn't quite found the right metaphor for it yet. (I have the 1MD). I don't mind it, it just adds personality. Along with the BOV, Wastegate, brake squeal, my car is a cacophony of sound when starting, accelerating, shifting, stopping, etc...

I get this ALL the time, I'm hoping motor mounts will cure it. I get it in 2nd/3rd too when babying it/slipping clutch.
Also, the 1MD has been holding my 220 ft-lb of torque just fine. But at what cost?

AAAH! I bet he bought it for the same reason as me. Clutch 101 by Rocket.
Maybe we were expecting too much.
