Default DYNO: Spec A overlay Jun2/ITR

Got things dialed in a little better today. Actually, alot better as I picked a nice amount of midrange in exchange for giving up a little bit of peak whp (thanks mike k).
Below is my old graph done at a new dyno jet here in orlando. As you can see my numbers are actually better on that dyno, but after visiting the dyno in Mike K's town it shot me down about 5whp/5tq.

Below you can see I walked in the door making less power (different dynos), but after Mike got his hands on my car he really fattened up the midrange.

Below is a plot of:
Blue: Vegeta's ITR with JUN2 intake/ITR exhaust
Red: My ITR with Spec A's
Green: Mike K's ITR with stock ITR cams (I think) and a Topspeed Head

Guess who doesn't have the AEM

I think its because of how the torque curve is scaled. Notice the torque scale on the first graph vs the scale on the last two, this caused the torque curve to be a bit over exaggerated. Also, my ari/fuel was all over the place on the first graph.

Its not a sudden DROP. its returning to its normal curve after the
AEM power spike.

Damn, between two dyno jet, the differences in hps can be almost 8whps??
So is it true that newer dyno would usually give higher hps number??

The second graph is tuned for more midrange power at the expense of some top end power.

But I assume the Blue line on the 2nd graph is the baseline run on the other dyno, right?
So there are still 7.1 whps difference between that and the 1st graph.

The second graph is tuned for more midrange power at the expense of some top end power.

Right. I walked in there with the same cam & fuel pressure settings from when I was making 182/131, but this dyno showed that I was only making 175/125. I was somewhat suprised to say the least. Reid is right, Mike tuned this for more midrange power (useable) power as opposed to a high peak number. I will take 15 in the mid at the expense of 5 up top anyday.

I would be interested to visit the dyno where I made 182/130 to see how my engine measures up against it now.

Why would you have expected that?

I was happy with my cars results, for having a stock intake and exhaust, have no FPR, so its not really tunable to the fullest as i want, cars also always seem to dyno lower on this dyno, ie, Dustin went from 182 to 175.

here is my mod list

Jun 2 intake cam
PYR ecu
VAFC
drop in filter
dc jdm

the Most peak power i made was 175.6
but with this setup i lost a few hp at 8200rpms, but gained everywhere else, and increaded my torque by 4 lbs

I think with a AEM and a exhaust, i should let my engine breath better and be in the 180's, on this dyno, but for under $1000 on my car i think i am making good power.

also Dustin it was nice to meet you

hmmm...there was a big thread about a cam test where Jun2/ITR walked all over the Spec A's in the midrange. Not the case here at all.

How much time there was between the two dyno run?

we dont have comparable mods, i dont have a AEM, or throttle body, or FPRlso his 3rd hour of dyno time, I spent 30 min, on the dyno

for spending less than $1000 on mods i think i am doing very well, i mean 128TQ is really good

Yes, the air temp was the same. We dynoed at the same location on the same day. I went on at about 11:00 and he started around 12:15. Vegeta's car is definitely doing very well for the amount of $/mods that he has spent on his car. Keep in mind, this dyno seems to have a slightly lower output rating than some of the others out there. So for less than a grand (he won the jun cam in a game of pool ) his car is kicking some ***, definitely on the strong side and kicking my *** mod for mod. By the way, nice meeting you & jay.

Can you tell us what your settings for cam gears and fuel and such were after Mike tuned your car. looks like it really made the car much more linear. Also what Vtec do you set for your setup.

Thanks for the info I assume you mean crank degrees and that nice low Vtec gives a strong midrange makes the spec-B's look weak since they Xover at like 6500+. I'm glad I got the A's.

despite all the talk from dyno operators/owners about comparability between dynos, it is just not true. You really can't compare numbers between different dynos, I have always found a difference. They are best used as tuning tools to measure changes when visiting the same dyno facility, differences in peak numbers between dynos is useless info.

I agree it just has to many variables so if you do tuning stick to the same dyno on follow up visits to keep some repeatabilty.
