Default thieves tried to steal my car now it wont start

I came out to my car this morning to find that someone had tried to steal it. They removed the plastic around my steering column and disconnected the white cap that all the wires for ignition run to, I plugged that back in but still my key wont turn. Any ideas?

Your ignition is fucked. Same thing happend to me. You're going to have to change the ignition column.

I called a locksmith and he told me what to do. Then I messed around with it long enough that i got it started. Now it works like normal again. Ignition wasn't fucked car now works perfect again.
