Default Possible Tranny Fix$$$? (b16)

Hey guys whats goin on. A while back, i wasnt thinking and jammed it into reverse sitting still without pressing down the clutch. It grinded like a ****. Now when i start off in first gear i hear what sounds like broken pieces of metal inside. Thats the best i can descirbe it. Its very faint but its there. Its more noticable when you are barely rolling back and start to engage in 1st. what i want to know is maybe possibilities, and how much it would cost for someone to open the tranny up and take a look at what may be wrong with it. I drive around normal daily, no problems what so ever. you know what they say. If it aint broke dont fix it. Help me out here. B16 Hydro from 99Si.

Additional Problem: When my shifter is in gear, doesnt matter if its 1st-5th, it has ALOT of play. I can move it at least an inch 1/2 left and right. yeah so a total of 3" of play. It has to do with the link on the tranny. Any ideas to get rid of that?

You may have damaged the reverse idler gear. I don't know what it'll cost to get looked at.

For the shifter, the play can be caused by either the linkage that bolts to the shifter being loose, or more common for older cars, the shifter bushing that the shifter sits in is worn. That's like $8, and simple to replace. Check if the linkage is loose, it doesn't have to be very tight, otherwise it is difficult to shift.

As for the shifter bushings, i have already replaced them with the Energy Suspension's. I have tightened the bolt that the shifter connecs to and yeah it makes it harder to shift. All the play looks like its coming from the link to the tranny itself. I have a 99, i mean my car shifts, im not gonna rip anything apart to fix it. reverse idler gear... how much we lookin at? $$$ thanks.

reverse idler gear is the simplest thing to fix. if it were me id take one day , open the tranny and replace the reverse idler gear.

its that simple.

When I'm in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd I get a metal grinding sound and it's my bearings.

Ill just leave it all alone. If it aint broke dont try and fix it. I can shift fine, and drive around with no problems. Just gives me a reason to someday buy a GSR tranny.
