Default Exhaust note question!

hey guys,
im about to get my custom 2.25" system installed and 4-2-1 headers. These are all custom made from mild steel. The thing is, when i get my exhaust done i still want to hear the induction sound.. i want the tone a little more deeper than stock but not too much.. my car is an 98 Ek SiR, with only an aem style intake, other than that its all stock..

should i remove the cat and put in a resonator?
btw, this is my muffler, will this calm the sound down?

With a resonator and a straight pipe, the intake will still be louder.
If you take out the cat, the exhaust sound will be a little more louder but I dont think it will drown the intake.

What you want to be concerned about is the exhaust sounding like a tin can. You might want to research different exhaust sounds.

It really depends on what exhaust you have. If you put a test pipe on it will be louder than with a cat. If you put a resonator it will be quieter.
Chances are the exhaust will be louder than the intake, but really depends what you have.

You can always put it on then change it out if you don't like it.

BTW, Where are you?

I have a dc header 4-1, JR high flow cat and thermal r&d exhaust, at idle i can hear my aem short ram and at each shift i can hear it. under normal driving i can barely hear the intake over the exhaust but when you get on it, the exhaust over whelms it. hope that helps

As far as i know european SI-r's Dont come with much of a cat. Its gonna be alot louder than your intake.

im from New Zealand.. im still a little confused..
is a test pipe just like a normal pipe in place of the cat? thanks for the comments!

what do you mean by 'it depends on what exhaust you have'... im a lil confused. could you pease clear this up, im a newbie when it comes to exhauts. thanks.

If i have 2.25 piping, with no cat, and a es oval type muffler.. will it be loud?
I imported the car from japan too if that helps..

Well some exhausts are designed to be quiet, for example the Greddy SP and the Apexi WS.

On the other hand some focus more on performance, such as the Apexi N1, Spoon N1 and Mugen Twin loop.

So try and find out what your exhaust was designed for. I tried openeing the pic but wouldn't work.

Well a local exhaust shop should be able to make a decent pipe set up for you. Recommendations seem to be around 2.25-2.5 inch piping with mandrel bends.

As far as a custom exhaust, ie the canister that would be pretty pricey.

Your probably best off buying a full exhaust that is designed for your car.
There are a few sound clips on this site, but most manafactures carry sound clips on their 'site

Where in New Zealand are you from?? Have a search on http://www.nzhondas.com and you'll find heaps of threads about where to get exhausts done.
*edit* you've got an NZHondas gallery so you've probably found the site. I dont think the gallery can be accessed from overseas so others might not be able to see the pic.

^^ yeah i been searching thru the NZhondas, but i just came here to see what others around the world would say. I basically want a 2.25 custom mandrel bent piping without a N1 style muffler. I dont want it to be too loud, just something with a low rumble. Im also thinking of removing the cat when i get it fitted.
