paint my fender
i have a fender and im gonna try to paint it myself.. i sprayed some autocarft remover on it and some came off but most paint stayed on.. so do i have to wet sand all that paint off or can i primer over it.. what should i do
do u have an air compressor? if u don't then yes, u gotta do it by hand. if u really want to get all the old paint off u coarse sand paper but its not really needed. just get it to the point thats its smooth enough and then use some wax and grease remover or denatured alcohol to remove any other dirt on it and then paint. If you do decide to get all the old paint off and go down to bare metal, i suggest you primer, then sand, then paint it
you need to get more stripper.. then get a brush and while the paint is peeling, use the Metal brush to scrub the paint.. you don't want to have paint left here and there.. it's not going to turn out right.. then once you've cleaned all the paint off.. rinse it with water and dry it thoroughly. then start with thin coats of primer.. I'd say 3 medium coats should be fine, and wetsand in between coats so the paint is sure to be even..
once you're satisfied with the primer, lay down the basecoat.. enough so you can start to see the glaze, but not so much that it starts to run.. wet sand as needed in between coats.. then clear coat.. repeat wet sand till satisfied and buff..
wet sanding should be with 1500-2500 grit paper...
