Need advise on doing a head gasket change. By the way, I plan to do a complete write up after I am done so some poor soul can do it too. I did a write up on replacing my timing belt, water pump, crank & cam shaft seals that has helped plenty of others. Please help me with this project.

I have a 1996 civic ex with D16Y8 engine 83K miles I just bought. Turns out there is a head gasket problem.

First, has anyone done a write up? Any links to help me with the research?

Using a helms manual, it appears I have to remove the distributor assemble from the head. I am concerned how to put it back on and synchronizing with the engine. Anything I need to do before hand? I don't know much about distributor assembly.

After I get the head off, do I just clean the head and engine block and replace the head gasket? I was told to have the head inspected first. If so, how much should I expect to pay for gasket and inspection? How much should I expect to pay for this entire project?

Last, should the vtec soleniod gasket be replaced?

Any advise or tips would be appreciated.
