main cap tq question.
when checking main bearing clearances on a gsr. if i use the black moly-graphite assembly lube on the bolts instead of engine oil can that cause additional clamping force and reduced bearing clearances? the reason i asked was im building this short block for a friend and the bearing clearences are on the tight side and the crank was micro polished so i would of thought the clearances would be on the loose side or at least middle of the row. this was with oem bearings and they are the proper color for each journal. thanks for any feed back.
Very likely. As you've suspected, type of lube, torque spec, and torque sequence all play a role. Micropolishing "normally" does not remove much, if any, measurable material. Right thing to do is clean bolts and flush out the bolt holes of moly lube. If still a problem, I would torque the caps onto the block without the bearing shells and check the main saddle bores for straightness/roundness. Hope this helps.

dont quote me on this but im pretty sure that there is a 20% difference between torquing with moly lube or oil.
so yeah using the same torque #'s with moly will increase clamping
