Pics, writeup from this weekend (Mid-Ohio with Erik95LS and Buckeye BMWCCA)
Awesome weekend! My only mechanical failure was a dipstick!
First off-- thanks Erik for showing me the area, teaching me about some of the better lines and such. I had a great time.
Mid-Ohio was a blast. My car has too much torque for a lot of the tricky/tight parts (coming out of Madness in third, coming out of 11, coming out of Carousel and Keyhole). There were a few places where I was talking to people about how to take corners (10a/10b, turn 2) and the consensus was full throttle. Hell no, not me!
I got bumped to the Advanced group (7th school, first at Mid Ohio). That was a great feeling. Group B was really slow (Erik excepted). Erik probably belonged in Advanced too, he would have fit in fine (mid-pack I'd guess, on street tires, in an Integra LS.)
Here's Erik's lap times, that I accidentally captured by taking pictures in the same corner.
:::
Morning of day 2: 1:58 in traffic, 2:02 in traffic.
Last session of day 2: 2:08 on warmup lap, 1:56, 2:00 with no apparent traffic.
Here's some pictures of Erik. (He WAS passing the cars in the shots, the photos are out of order.)
Exiting Turn 7:

Early in Turn 8:

Apexing in 8:

Early in 4:

Mid-4:

Rubber I picked up in the back straight:

Oil on hood (Dipstick failure)

Me me me!

Dang! Looks like everything is "ok" at least. Compression is overrated anyway. I'd say it's likely your car was idling rough because of fouled plugs (running rich, aren't you?) or just hot car sucking cold air.
Actually, I forgot to mention, I did the 3-2 accidental shift transitioning from the carousel to turn 15. I need a harness to hold me in place. Also my instructor shifted 3rd to 2nd on the back straight. Whew, both of us caught it before 8000 RPM.

Here are a few of mine. No action shots of Chris unfortunately. It was really a great weekend. It rained early saturday morning but then dried out and was beautiful the whole rest of the weekend aside from some wind.
Those BMWs are way too slow

Thats kind of cool that you accidently timed me. I've never had a lap time at MO before. I'm kind of suprised I was below 2 minutes since I was just relaxing down the back straight

your instructor was driving your car? and was driving it aggressively?

Yeah, BMW Club allows that. It was Chris' idea though.
Erik - whos car won't ever be driven by an instructor unless he's a good friend of mine

Yeah, well not even my instructor, just an instructor that knew how to drive.. It was my first time at Mid-Ohio, I have a lot to learn, and was looking for every opportunity.
Ernie took it easy for a couple laps, learned the shifter (well, learned how to find 4th anyway!!), figured out what my brakes were doing, etc. then he drove it 'hard', getting decent drift angles, left foot braking for turn 8, coming into turn 2 faster than I was, coming out of the keyhole a lot faster than I was after a few different tries. He coasted after the kink in the back straight, other than that, he seemed to be around 8/10ths or so, plus or minus a tenth.
I'm still learning to be disciplined about where I need to be slower-in, to be faster-out. But I'm learning, too. I decided taking 7 fast and 8 slow-in was best. 11, I was always too-fast coming in. 2 I was often too slow coming in (I'm a puss) but other times I came in too hot. Ah well, not bad for my first time at the track. I could have used a couple of more sessions, darn club racers.
