Chiped p28 or GSR computer
I have a chiped p28 and v-tech does not hit hard. It kinda slides into v-tech at around 5100rpm. I think it is a skunk 2 chip. Do you think a GSR (p72?) will hit v-tech hard??
If an ecu is chipped it does not matter if its a p28 or a p72 its going to tell the car to do what the chip is telling it to do. Maybe vtec is engaging too early but what do you expect? Its not going to hit like a n2o or boost hit.....

what mods...sometimes the intake or exhaust system will change the actual sound of vtec popping, either way it's still functioning...right? you might need a better chip with a better map...but the sound it not what matter really...

A good tune generally leaves little perceived "boost" at the VTEC crossover, because the cams are switched at a point where the two torque curves meet.
I personally think that the Junk2 chip needs to be thrown in the trash, and a new proper dyno tune done.

yea vtec isn't suppose to be a rough transition, it's made to be smooth and daily driver-friendly so i'm pretty sure a gsr ecu wouldn't help anything. but yea i agree, get it tuned.

I'm sure the issue is not your vtec. It either engages or doesn't. Maybe needs tuning, maybe the motor is just old and beat up, maybe just needs a tune up. Could be any of that.
