wire up vtec...?
i just swapped a d15y5 into my 91 honda civic hb si..and i want to wire up my vtec..do i HAVE to use a p28 ecu?
i did searches for about an hour and no luck..none of the searches that i found told me if i had to use a p28 ecu or not

you can use anything to trigger it, a switch or button even, but if you want it to be automatic like the p28 would be, then you need a switch that understands tach signal.
if i remember correctly i had seen discussions about this, its possible there are aftermarket pieces you could use to accomplish your goal.

here, check this out, this is about a mini-me swap, but its the same situation you have, adding vtec to an ecu without it.

on the needed parts list they say Fields and Apexi make vtec controllers, so there you go.
