Si final drive in a dx trans with OBX LSD?? good idea? possible? feedback?
ok, the dx tans was free, and the si trans has 4 gears that grind REAL bad and has a bad main shaft bearing. im thinking about swapping over the final drive fromthe si to the dx tans and then installing the new OBX LSD. im hoping to make a pretty sick-*** SOHC turbo tranny. not as long as a dx, but not as short as an si. car will be daily driven, so i want a decent tranny to drive around town with. but i also want a good tranny for the highway. HELP!! should i do this??

for sure. LSD rocks and i hear the obx one is pretty decent. but im sorry to say you will have an si tranny with lsd when you are done. All the gears are the same between the trannys the only difference IS the final drives. when u swap em you will have an SI tranny, good tranny imo!

I second that!

The SI tranny is just fine on the highway..
I recently got 35-37MPG round trip to Atlanta and back with an SI final drive in my SI/ZC hybrid tranny.

So how hard would it be to swap the Si final drive into a DX tranny?
I've swapped out tranny's and differentials in my Neon...how hard would this be compared to that?

thats actually pretty cool. i KNOW my dx trans is mint, so i guess now its just a matter of switching the FDs so i have a better tranny, does anyone have a write up on switching the FDs?

I've never worked on a Neon, but I'm gonna guess it's similar. I'd keep your original differential and just swap the final drive ring on there so you don't have to reshim anything.
1. open case
2. pull out parts you want
3. put them into the case you want
4. close case.

Doesn't seem like it'd be too hard then...
Thanks
