96 accord MT. There is about 1/8 to almost 1/4 inch of play between the half shaft (going to the drivers side wheel) and the fixed-bolted shaft going to tranny. I thought the play was in the CV joint but now after placing the inboard joint on the fixed shaft I found the play seems to be in the splines. (I have the half shaft apart and the inboard joint is separate. Looks like the bearing on the fixed(bolted shaft to tranny) is not loose?

Can the splines wear out? This joint seems to have too much free play. Or is this normal? Car has about 78,000 miles.
