zex 59300 cam q's
from what the zex website says, it seems the 59300 is compatible with the stock valvetrain. i know the 59100 is but from what i hear the 59300 requires valvesprings and retainers. since most street/strip and strip only cams require an upgrade, it only seems logical, could someone clear this up?
I have used the 59300 with stock valvetrain. So has my brother and a good friend. It will work with stock valve train, but i am poor and couldn't afford the upgrade, but i do recommend it. the cam can make useable power above the stock rev limit, and anytime you rev above the stock limit or have such a high lift as .455/.430, you should upgrade the valvetrain.
ah good stuff, i will upgrade the valvetrain eventually, i just wondered if i could use the cam for a while before i upgrade. also, do you NEED a cam gear? i could understand if i had the y8 cam so that i could adjust timing correctly, but people keep saying i need an adjustable cam gear. any truth to this?
i am using a stock cam gear on mine. it's just like a stock cam but it makes more power everywhere, especially in VTEC. i would highly recommend upgrading the valvetrain ahead of time so you do not bend a retainer.
