Heat Shield
My 2000 Honda Civic was making a funny rattling noise when I drove it.....the honda dealership said that it was the heat shield. When I went in to take care of it...another customer was in for the same thing. Is this a common deal with Civics or something??? He told me that now that I don't have one on there to stay away from parking under grass or leaves.
Heat shields are above the exhaust pipes, below the body of the car...so it wouldnt make a difference if you parked over grass or not. Not that I advise to do that in the first place, especially if youre lowered.
I havent used a cat shield for over 2yrs and no issues at all. Also, my cat's own shields have been gone since summer....no issues.
My motto is, "If a heat shield rattles, remove it".

Mine ratteled after Itook it off, and only put 2 bolts back instead of all 3. It did not when i had all 3. But I have had mine off for a while. No problems. That guy just suck a tube up his *** a filled it full of ****. There is no reason why the top of the car would matter, it would have to be closer to the cat ...in that area, which your HS is not. Only thing that i heard *could happen is perhaps your exaust mani heat might not 'dissipate' as it does with the shield, and could concentrait around your radiator...causing you to overheat. but you baby have never ran a tem.
TAKE IT OFF IF YOU PLEASE.

Yes this is a common problem with Hondas over time. Because they removed the ENTIRE heat shield around the Catalytic converter it is possible that it could ignite (although unlikely) tall dried grass or leaves if you were to drive in a field or park in debris like that.
