Help, son has done something to his car, he was trying to hook up stero equipment and something shorted out??? He said he pulled fuses to see if any blew and when he pulled one the car died and now it wont start, it just turns over. The coil pack was replaced and still nothing... is there a main sensor or something that may cause it not to star ? Thanks Deb
Yes all fuses have been checked, auto shop here says maybe main sensor or relay, do you know where they might be?? Also a neighbor used some kind of check engine light tester and it said error, neighbor said its not even getting to brain ????? And something about no fire going to plugs???
Youve checked the large fuses in the box under the hood too?
If ALL the fuses and relays are still good, and I doubt they are, then the ecu could be fried.
Whatever is the problem, I hope your son learned that whenever electrical work is done on a car, to disconnect the battery's negative cable to prevent shorts/blows/killing of the ecu.

He sould always take the neg side off the battery before messing with electrical stuff.
You should check the fuse box by the battery. it has a cover with a diagram of the fuse layout. check them. it will have odd shaped fuses aswell...green, yellow maybe...depends. they have a little 'glas' or plastic window on top...it allows you to view the copper (imguessing) wire...see it they are connected or if it is blown.
Im in louisville, ky ...how far away is fairdale from here? (sorry to postwhore) I have a 96-00 civic EX P2P ECU that would work on your son's car (IF THE ECU IS BAD) Ill let it go for 50. if you want me to drive it to you... I get 32 miles per gallon. lol however far away you are....plus driving back. You do the math.

O.K. I will get him to check all that, not to sound stupid but what is ecu??? I live right in between preston hwy and dixie hwy..... He will check the fuses again but how can you check the relays??? Where are they?? Of course this car came with no manual, so he has been looking , guessing and asking, but when he took the coil pack in to be tested they said the primary worked but the secondary didn't so he bought that $70.00 piece and it still just turned over..... Thanks so much Deb

lol since your a 'mother' of the guy who messed up the civic, no one would think your 'stupid' . Now your son....just kidding. jokes jokes.
Ok ECU it is the computer that runs makes your car run. the civic is fuel injected...so it needs a computer to tell it how much fuel to add(subtract) when the throttle is open or closed. (gas peddle) It holds fuel and timing maps, (if the car is an automatic) it tells the transmission when to shift, and also allows vtec to engage (if all req. are met, oil level, motor temp) So just call it the brains.
You can buy a NEW one from honda for around 700$. Or you could find someone off here to get it for dirt cheap.
You best bet, since the car has no manual. Go out to autozone and get a haynes. but IF YOU CAN FIND IT, get a HELMS!!!! Its the best in my opinion. (books that cover the whole car)
Did he happen to touch the spark plugs, or spark plyg wires....maybe he didn't put it back in the correct firing order if he did touch them.
Any more questions just ask....everyone will help.

Thanks so much for the help, he's gonna recheck everything now, as for him being stupid, well he's only 19 and he already knows everything, much more than I ever thought about knowing. haha But he learned from this cause momma has to drive him around,we have one car for 4 people...what fun, now you know why I found this site. Do you live close by ? Deb
I would try putting 12 volts to the trigger wires and listen for a click. If it doesn't click you know it's bad, if it does click it is still suspect and you need to find an ohm meter.
Im in the hillview area, i guess you could say. off of preston.
I think I need to again suggest...get a HELMS, if you cant find it, a haynes is ok, but helms is a lot more detailed.
hahaha car pool, I dont think I have done that in a while. Well, not with 'tha folks'

O.K. What is trigger wires ? I got a haynes book just now.... as far as the diagram being on the box under the hood, of course someone tore it off.... Hillview..my home away from home ( super walmart ) I'm about 5 minutes away, small world...... Car pool is the word, I have 2 who work and one in school, I'm the taxi driver , uugghhh O.K. I'm not sure if I can post again as I'm on a trial membership and something about 5 posts, he's looking at the book now..... Deb

As for the fuse layout under the hood, it should be in the haynes manual. I dont have a fuse layout diagram under my hood either. You also mentioned something about someone checking a CEL (check engine light). Is a CEL popping up on the cluster? If so, you can check the problem by finding out which code it is giving you. Here's a how-to on it https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=682412 The procedure is relatively simple. It says its for a 92-95 but the process is the same. Hope this helped
She probably dosnt know what the cluster is. And I'm pretty ******* sure that Haynes DOES NOT have ANY fuse diagrams. I live in tanyard springs. If you need, hit me up on murmur9@aol.com or AIM murmur9 If you would really like to get it working, i can come and take a look at it, see what codes he is throwing. We can start from there, I have all the wiring diagrams and all the fuse diagrams. Well i dont have the one under the dash, but i used a 99si one and copyed it down, arnt 99s and 97 ex's about the same? Even to find out, ill bring my other ECU to hook up, see what the problem is. lol You have me feeling bad now, its been a few days...and your a mother who is trying to do everything to get her sons car back up and running.

Ok
Ever wander why your car won't start when it's hot outside, or maybe even after you take it out for a drive and come back and she won't turn on. It will do nothing but crank and turnover.
If you'll notice IF your problem is the main relay your fuel pump won't prime on.
This is because of a faulty PGM-FI main relay. With the car being a 92-95 civic..with your car being around 10-12 years old the soldier joints on the relay have dried out and have bad connection and cause your main relay to not let your fuel pump prime on.
A new main relay at honda is around $58.00 - $60.00
But why pay 60.00 when you can fix it for less then $5.00?

dosn't mean it IS the main relay, but it could be. usually (if you know about cars) you will 'trouble shoot' to find out what the problems are. im just sorry that you have to learn how to trouble shoot. but atleast you will know what to start looking at if it wont start again some other time....

didn't say "It was the main relay" Someone posted this(the quote below), and I responded with what I found. Of course you trouble shoot the problems, in the info that I posted it said how do figure if the main relay could possibly be the culprit.
