Default Just another exhaust question

I've had my heart set on a Comptech exhaust because I heard it had a nice deep sound to it and I liked the way it looked. However, after reading some older posts apparently Comptech is not the greatest purchase for the price. The Mugen twinloop is way out of my price range.

I'm still looking for something that looks nice (i.e. close to stock, I don't like the rounder type of exhausts) and also is not that loud.

I now have my eye on the RS*R exhaust being sold in the for sale forum. I was wondering what the differences between the ceramic coated version(the one i see for sale) and the stainless steel version of the exhaust. Any insight would be appreciated.

Also anyone have any other exhausts to suggest besides the Apexi World Sport, the Comptech and the RS*R?

Why exactly is the Comptech exhaust not a good product?

I didn't mean to say that it's not a good product. From the posts I've read some people say there is better stuff for the money. Some products have more gains for a cheaper price. Someone also posted that the piping on the comptech is more restrictive than the RS*R. I'm not sure about that though. Basically it's just that the RS*R is selling for ~250 dollars cheaper than the comptech. However if I'm wrong and the comptech is better I wouldn't mind spending the extra money if it means a better product.

Someone told me the ceramic coared exhausts can crack? Can any one verify this?

I guess if you're talking Apexi WS, I'd throw the Tanabe Hyper Medallion up there with that particular exhuast. I don't know how it compares with the others you mentioned, but i'd say these two are very similar exhuast systems.

COMPTECH!!!! go with my setup to save money...comptech rearend with custom mandrel bent piping and a resonator for the low-pitched, deep tone..sounds bitching!! Deep and clean sound all the way through..doesn't get raspy at all like a lot of other exhausts...honestly, i think my exhaust sounds the best from any others I've heard.

I have the new Skunk2/RSR exhaust. In terms of build quality, nothing else I have seen is even in the same ballpark. The TIG welds are good enough to be on a Titanium bike frame. The entire thing is mirror polished(including the 3/4" thick flanges) and the entire thing is stainless (including the flanges). Note, the Comptech exhaust flanges are mild steel so they will rust if you live on the East Coast. Greddy, Tanabe, Thermal exhaust look sort of amaturish in comparison. The Skunk2 is a straight thru design and is VERY loud although the silencer that comes with the exhaust makes it a lot quiter. the sound is very deep with no tinny sound. Fit was spot on althouh I have to loosen the bolts up and rotate the unit a little sice it is a few degress clockwise (not that big of a deal with a round muffler).

That is what I've been look at. However I've heard that the stainless steel version is better than the ceramic coated one, is this true? Were there RS*R SS exhausts made for gsrs?

Like someone had mentioned, the Comptech exhaust uses mild steel flanges so the will rust quickly. Also, the resonator hangs kinda low so you will hit it goiing over bumps if your car is lowered 1.5" or more.
so who sells the S2 exhaust???????

DC is a piece of ****. I suggest you look into a 5Zigen Fireball. If you don't like "round" (i'm assuming canister) style exhausts, then get a Thermal exhaust. They're good too.

Inline Four has them in stock for $500. It took less than a week for them to ship to me on the East Coast. The exhaust has gotton a little quiter (or I am just a little more used to it). I like it with the resonater installed, it's just too loud without the resonater inserted. Sound is great, deep not at all tinny. I hit 120 mph yesterday and it came up really quick.

I have the Skunk2 also. I love the sound of it at wot. I would recomend it. The craftsmanship is great altho my resonator has a little rattle at 1.5k and 3.5k rpm. I emailed Skunk2 and they said to go the place i got it from(a local shop). I gonna go to them in a few days and see whats the deal. I want a new b-pipe or something so it stops rattling. Hopefully Skunk2 treats me well or i wont be telling people to get their exhuast anymore. I have had the whole catback since early august. Love it. peace

Go with your heart and get the Comptech. The design makes for a perfect fit.
The welding is flawless.
The sound is not too loud or too soft.
The power gains are measureable.
It's all stainless and a thing of beauty.

I've had 3 exhausts on my GSR and this is by far the best bang for the buck!
