Hi,

Not much smarts when it comes to cars ... son just bought a 1991 Civic and the check engine light is on (not flashing, just on). Is it safe for him to drive it or should we tow it to a mechanic? Safe to drive for a few days?

its safe but you should pull the code from it

go buy a shop manual for the car

and it will help you out alot

look under the carpet on the passenger side floorboard, you will see the ecu. there is a light that will blink when you turn the car on. count the number of blinks after the first one and that will be the trouble code. then go here http://ecu.ff-squad.com/tech.ecu.codes.htm and find out what it is throwing a code for.
