Default Will i damage my transmission if.......

when i bought my car the seller says it has a CTR LSD gearbox.

Since it's expensive to pay someone to take out the drive shaft to see if there really is an lsd in there i just changed the trans oil with 75w90 redline lsd oil.

Will putting in LSD specific trans oil in a non LSD gearbox ruin the thing?

Wht are the ways short of taking out the drive shaft to see if i really have a CTR LSD in there?

Thing is when i drive my friends ITR with same Redline trans oil it shifts like butter! Mine is a little stiff (I have Mugen shifter bushings)
Could it be the heavier oil weight?

have you driven the car hard around a corner....

i.e. do a hard u turn see if the inside tire spins.....

if it does then you have no lsd....

someone correct me if i am wrong in suggesting this....

it was very obvious in my type r that the lsd was there, and not there in the rsx...

as for the tranny fluid..... honda mtf

~jack up the front of the car
~put the transmission in any gear
~rotate one tire and the other one should spin the opposite direction (in nuetral the tires are independent of each other)

also there should be a visible J4D LSD stamp on the tranny as you stand right infront of the car witht hte hood up.

So is this method work with any cars with LSD? Becoz I heard some european cars turn their wheel in the same way if the LSD is equipped.

honda mtf should cover all oem lsds. aftermarket is a different story.

then again i was talking to the owner of kaaz and he told me that honda mtf is pretty much thick oil and kaaz gear oil has additives that help longevity of their lsd. i use honda mtf.

i'm assuming gear/torsen'helical type lsd only.
viscous is a different story and i have no clue about the clutch type.

Thanx for the reply guys,i will try and borrow a jack from my friend soon to find out.
So just to confirm when i do this test i must put the trans in any gear?

I do have the LSD stamp on my trans.Just that too many people scam nowdays, although it says it has a lsd it dosent mean the previous owner didnt take it out and sell before handing the car to me.

For street use yes.... anything else, get good fluid. Your 'box will run cooler and you will put less wear on it.

today i finally jacked up the car and put it in gear.
Spin one wheel and the other spins in the opposite direction.
Is it safe to say i have a lsd in the trans?

I don't think you have a lsd
In my 240, I turn it one way the other turns in the same direction.
Why don't you just do a burn out with some azenis
if you leave two rice paddies, you got a lsd
lol
