Default does better gas matter?

i have been using 89 octane since i own my crx Si. and ive been wanting to switch to 93 octane. i only use chevron i love techron plus studies show that chevron has the best gas. now will switching from 89 to 93 be that much more beneficial? will it make any difference? will it make my motor breathe easier work easier? its only another 1-2 dollars to the tank not that big of a deal. so is 93 worth the 1-2 dollars extra over mid grade 89?

I can't tell the difference between 87 and 91. Waste of money unless you buy race gas or something....

You get the best performance out of the lowest grade gas you can use without detonation. More power and better gas mileage. You only need 87 on a stock Si motor. Hell, I borrowed some Sunoco 94 the other day and it made my engine backfire. 87 is the ticket. Dyno shows 2hp more with 87 than with 91.

just stay 89 and save your money on performance parts.. get boost if you really want to upgrade your octane

i think the higher the octane the slower it burns, because its needs more energy to ignite it or something like that. where's the octane expert from the post a few days ago?

i heard that civic engines should run on 87 because thats all they need to avoid detenation... also anything higher has a good possibility to make your car run real rich becuase it is not burning off all the gas

IMO 89 is a waste of money. its only there for the people that want 'better' gas and cant afford premium. only use premium if you have to, regular makes the car run fine.

I use 89 octane here with minor bolt ons. Seems to run a lot better than 87.

It shouldn't make a difference unless you NEED higher octane. I only pump 93 in my EM1 though $1.96/gal . Texas >> Cali.

From what i know the only time you need higher octane gas is if your car has either high compression or it is stated in the owners manual.

Most of the people that use higher octane gasoline don't really need it and are just wasting their money.

also i dont really buy the whole name brand fuel thing, considering there are only a limited number of refineries and in a given area odds are that all the gas station purchase their gas from the same refinery. Thus, the gas one purchases at some mom-and-pop place is the same gas as the one from chevron with a price difference.

well..not exactly true..chevron is different gas..ive heard reports about differing "grades" of refined gas and chevron only uses a specific source that is supposedly better(cleaner..less sulphur content etc)i trust chevron more than other brands if i can find it before i run out(if not..whatever is fine to get ya home ) i gotta thank h-t for letting me know that lower octane is better..using 93 and getting backfires was puzzling..i'm a dumbass

Well just switching to higher octane won't help,, but if you advance the timing it will give you a little more power to run 93.
