Default Compression Test Question

I am having the misfing in cyclinder #2 CEL, so I want to do a comp. test. I will prolly go out and get a tester tmrw.

I looked at the instructions at C-Speed, and have a few questions ( i am not that good with cars). Instructions from S-speed are in quotes.

"Have someone hold the compression tester while you press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, this is very important. While the pedal is pressed down, turn the ignition on and crank the motor over 5 times."

If the gas pedal is held at WOT position all the way to the floor, and then i start the engine, wouldn't that cause me to over-rev? How long do I have to hold the gas all the way to the floor? On the next step wheere they say crank it over 5 times, does that mean i I rev it to redline 5 times non stop?

"Repeat these steps one at a time for all four cylinders".

Do i do the test twice on each cylinder right away, or do I do do all four cylinders and then go back to the 1st cylinder? Or no difference?

Thanks and wish me luck.

When you do a compression test you have to take out the spark plugs...so the car doesn't actually start.

If you are misfiring, check the plugs' condition first. Check for spark and fuel at all cylinders.

Okay- now I really feel like an idiot.
"Have someone hold the compression tester while you press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, this is very important. While the pedal is pressed down, turn the ignition on and crank the motor over 5 times."

After holding the gas pedal to the floor, do i just turn the key to the ON position (Not start engine), and then pump the gas pedal 5 times to the floor?

You want to go all the way to the "start" position, because your PGM FI fuse and spark plugs and/or wires are out, it will not start the car but will crank the motor... each time you hear the "whirrrl" (doesn't actually sound like that, but you'll know) it counts as a "time".... all the while, holding the gas pedal down (which in this case has nothing to do with gas, since the fuse is out).

So in summary, hold the key in the "start" position until you hear five "whirrrrl"s.

Yeah.

1) Remove 4 spark plugs
2) Remove fuse for Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) or remove harnesses from fuel injectors.
3) Screw compression tester into a cylinder and friggin set it on your valve cover. Keep away from belts and exhaust.
4) Get in car, floor gas pedal, turn key until the starter starts turning. Hold for about 5 seconds.... After you hear ~5 popping noises (the cyliner with compression tester will sound funny) stop. It will be obvious when to stop.

Wheeee wee wee bah....

Wheeee wee wee bah....

Wheeee wee wee bah....

Wheeee wee wee bah....

Wheeee wee wee bah....

Stop, check compression, let air out of compression tester and repeat.
