are the stainless steel DC sports 4-1 headers better or the JDM type R 4-1 headers better for my 94 gsr? Which gives more horse?

I believe the JDM header will give you more power, however if use this and you're using the stock cat now, you may need to replace it with a 2.5" diameter cat.

if its made for a type R then it wont fit on your gsr. somebody back me up on this one. but my suggestion would be to find a comptech 4-2-1 tig header. awesome gains(YES on the butt dyno but ive seen charts)

correct, I think it will fit an LS however.

I agree the comptech header is nice but pricey!
I believe APEXi makes a pretty good one as well.

it will not fit a 94-99 gsr, but will fit an 00-01 gsr, and 94-01 ls.

for $270, you could get a used comptech 4-2-1 or if you're lucky a used jdm itr 4-1. both headers go for under $300 quite consistently in the h-t classifieds (in used but good shape that is).

why bother, when you can get a replica of the jdm 4-1 in stainless steel for the same price, brand new?
but for the comptech one, i could understand, being that 4-1 and 4-2-1 serve different purposes...

The Megan Racing piece is pretty nice. I could get them for $255 shipped.

well some people would want to spend a little more money (or the same for a used one) to ensure they get a quality piece that has given proven gains. i'm not doubting the megan quality, i just have not seen any dyno's or evidence to back it up. i would trust oem honda anyday over another relatively new aftermarket company, that's just my personal preference. suffice to say, i saw pictures of a megan header and was actually surprised with the quality of their welds compared to other 'budget' brands.

i agree its a quality header (i have one too ). i shopped around forever when i was looking for mine, all the sellers i saw asking any more than $360 had trouble and eventually dropped their prices. after waiting for the right price, i ended up getting mine for well under $300, so i think its quite feasible to get a good deal on it.

i think that if you examine these many dyno results from this thread, you will find some stuff that you like, and it answers ur questions thoroughly
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=699674

=/ oops, they seem to not have the dyno charts there any more.. it was good stuff.. but anyway they still talk aobut the dc 4-1 and jdm 4-1 header , so read there

Always like the look of the JDM header. Those cross brackets give it a rugged look.

I beleive that the DC 4-1 header (which is what I run) is a better header unless you want something more "stock" looking. I would have to say that the length of the primary runners are longer and extent out farther (right out the head) then the ITR header and give a few more horse. Only problem I see is that there is a clearence issue as far as below the oil pan that is not there with the ITR header. AKA... easy denting.

bout the clearance issue u talkin about, theres a solution for that which is raising ur car a lil bit higher like wut im going to do to mine more stock look and not thieves or police magnet 1.25 front 1 rear.. and theres a thing to cover it up to prevent scraping the itr header which is the (heat shield) so i dont think is an issue to me. BTW i used to have DC sport 4-1 and i didnt like it much

megan headers i dunno about that, but im pretty sure the collector of that header is 2.25 correct me if im wrong, and plus i never hear any bad complaint against megan racing headers... but for $250 for megan i rather save up a lil bit more for comptech or jdm itr you'll get wut u paid for..

If I may ask, what didnt you like about it? Not enough power? Issues with fitting it properly?? Ive heard the DC sports headers (when ceramic coated) have a habit of flaking or showing wear too easily. Is this true? Im trying to decide myself which header to get (4-2-1 or 4-1) and which company to get it from. Any suggestions would be appreciated (dont mean to butt in on anybody's thread)...Ive already got an AEM CAI and a Tanabe catback exhaust for my 2001 GSR.
