Default weight reduction...need advice

i own a 92 vx that has been stripped of all interior carpet, rear seats, spare tire, sound deadening, and i have a carbon fiber hood, but i want to do more without compromising safety. i was discussing weight reduction with a friend tonight and i thought that you guys should share your insight with us.

i have four-wheel integra disc brakes and 15" rotas. he told me something about unsprung weight being ten times heavier on a car than sprung weight. my question is, how much weight would i be saving from removing the integra front and rear disc brake assemblies and installing lighter rims? is it even worth doing?

any other tips, such as after market lower control arms with holes?

I'll take 2 cases. I have come to the realization that the easiest way for my car to shed some weight is for me to loose some.

Actually, it's good for 8lbs once you put all the **** back in it (latch, lights, etc.) and it costs way too much to only shed that much.

I really hope your making this into a full race car because weight reduction on the street is pretty much the dumbest thing i've heard of, it's ghetto as hell and lame.

lol, seems like you might be taking this street racing thing a little too serious. Sounds like you're straight out of MTV's Real Life Story: I'm a street racer. You actually drag race your honda on the street for money?

actually, DRIVING can be the difference in a win or a loss. if you weigh too little, you can easily get loose in the car, and not catch any traction, ESPECIALLY on the streets, where you arent exactly running in drag specs, now are you? youre in the lightest hatch available right now, with enough stripping done to it, more wont even matter. unless you want to go cutting your floorboard out, or removing the gas tank and using a smaller one, you really dont need to worry about it. worry about your driving skill first if you honestly think weight reduction in a "weightless" hatch is going to make any difference for you.

i cant remember the last time i actually had my car out on the street., and there was something else that might even "compete" with my car.

like the other guy said, you are taking the street racing thing way to seriously. instead of stripping the **** out of your car, why dont you do something to it to make more power.....

SFWD IS A SHINING EXAMPLE, full interior, barely stripped out, top guys in the class running 9's, what more can you ask for?

street racing for money just seems lame, and so is gutting your car on the street, period. you can make more money doing that in one night than at your job? you must be racing some lame idiots then, either that or you don't come across any fast domestics. sorry about the rant, i guess i'm just tired of the honda game, too many losers, lamers, jokers, etc. there are too many honda drivers that think there cars are fast when most of them are slooooow in comparison to rear street monsters. on the street it all comes down to basically 60 ft, unless your racing up to like 130 or something, and we all know the rwd v8 have a huge advange on us, i just don't see how many races we could win on the street against real drag cars.

Damn you guys can talk ****... and some of you don't even know wtf you're talking about....

The integra brakes are slowing you down some, yes... but it's worth the weight... you need to slow down and stockers won't do it if you have any kinda speed under the hood.

If you're even barely serious about it... pull you a/c system out. Not just disconnect the belt... pull the WHOLE thing... compressor, condenser, fan, lines, dryer, evaporator, blower motor, heater core (under dash) and all the venting. It should save you about 50-60 lbs.

Take out your wiper system's water pump, reseviour, rear wiper motor if you have one, all the water lines for it.

Switch to a motorcycle battery... I think the harley battery has enought cranking amps to run the car normally. (That's what I've heard)

Even less weight ? If you're THAT extreme and don't have crazy $$ to spend, try pulling your dash in favor of either a diamond plate or fiberglass mould dash. (Fiberglass is better for a street car since you can paint it black to fly under the radar)

I used to run w/o a dash... If I recall, it weighed around 38 lbs.

Also take a look at plexi window plugs...but that's some $$.

I don't know about 03 cobra guys, but around here, i've seen guys running 10 second fox body stangs on the street. I'm not trying to diss on honda's, **** I own one. But i'm also smart enough to know that since i'm on a budget, there is no better way to go fast than a 5.0, ls1, etc.....sure there are really fast honda's prowling the street, but that is few and far between. A mildly modded v8 muscle car can run 12's easy and 11's without much effort......that's why im selling my honda and going american, no hard feelings, just my .02.

i think you are the dumbest person i've heard. and definitely lame
weight reduction is important to any high performance car.

if it wouldn't then why does ferrari use carbon fiber tubs, and hoods, and seats, and hoods, and etc. etc. etc.

Also plenty of weight reduction is not ghetto, many show cars have parts replaced with carbon fiber, or aluminum. You are the only ghetto thing here.

Now on to lame: Again are any of these cars lame?
GT40
Ford GT
Enzo
Lotus Elise
Lotus anything
lamborghini anything
porsche anything (some opt to drop the AWD on the new 911s since they are faster in a straight line due to less weight (same engine)
etc
etc
Because millions and millions of dollars are spent by engineers trying to do weight reduction on these cars before they make it to the showrooms are they lame too? If I race you with an equivalent powered car, and I took out the spare and rear seat, you would loose! Who is lame then?
In case you haven't found out yet. YOU are lame.

lol, you're trying to draw comparisons between a gutted 92 civic hatch and exotic performance cars, you're the one who is lame. The difference you are missing here is that those cars still look nice!!!! Calling a civic a high performance car, even if it's making 500whp yo, is still a stretch, any car can be made "high performance".

Go ahead and take out all the seats, carpets, spare, sound deadening material, use fiberglass, etc and what are you left with, A GHETTO *** RIDE. ****, take off the doors, hood, exhaust, dash, and go on a diet while you're at it.

So what if it might be .2 seconds quicker in a quarter mile, there are more important things that go into racing, owning a "nice" car, and life for that matter. If you want to go ahead and measure **** sizes with me that's fine, but ditch the car talk stunna and drop your pants. Internet Thugs

Posts, and people like this are what's driving me out of the honda/racing scene. It's all very pointless and childish if you think about it. I'm ready to mature in, step into a comfy reliable sedan, and let the morons, ricers, and insecure car ***** of the world duke it out.

My .02, flame me if you desire, I could care less.

well if you are trying to get out of the scene to drive a "family sedan", then why are you still posting things like this? i believe that weight makes alot of the difference in imports, and if it is going to get me a .2 faster time in the quarter mile, then im sure as hell going to do it.
