Do motors from Japan have vin # on the transmission?
there are no vin numbers on jdm transmissions but there is a bar code sticker on there to identify transmission code and serial number.

I haven't seen any on the trannys. In fact its beacuse of this many Honda show cars in Southern Cali that have JDM swaps have been impounded or cited at the shows. If local law enforcement don't see a VIN on the tranny, they consider it to be a stolen motor.

If you bought the jdm motor legally, you should have some sort of documentation saying that you legally own it.

Ya like "BauleyCivic" says!
If you have receipt of purchase for the motor n' tranny, you can fight the citation and you should win. In fact if you carry it in your glove box and your pulled over and an attempted citation is made, by showing the receipt you should be okay. Also if you're in Cali, a BAR decal will help too.
